Hurry up, October
Thanks to cedarleaf_7 for tipping me off about this: sneak peek of Chapter Two of the Son of Neptune. And if you haven't seen the book trailer (lol), there's pictures of new demigods and tinier nuggets of info! But onto the good stuff.
This particular section is a continuation of a part that RR read back in May at BEA where Percy met a woman named June and was asked to carry her over a highway to the Roman camp. There's still a bit missing connecting the two parts, but it's enough to get the general idea.
There's actually A LOT more info in this preview than I've accounted for in this summary. Most of it's Roman gibberish I don't have the time or knowledge to analyze properly, but I'm sure someone else will.
- The Roman camp is called Camp Jupiter (y so creative rr). Percy arrives at said camp in typical badass fashion.
- June is revealed to be Juno! (again, your creativity overwhelms me, RR) She tells him that Percy will get his memory back if he succeeds at camp. Juno also says, “Death must be unleashed.” I'm HOPING this has something to do with Nico and he's not teasing us again.
- According to Juno, Percy has been slumbering for the last couple of months. That explains the time gap between TLH and SoN, and why he’s been wandering at the beginning of the book.
- Reyna is the leader of the 12th legion and is probably a daughter of Bacchus, if the legions are numbered the same as the cabins at CHB.
- Reyna somehow knows who Percy is or at least his reputation. Does that mean she knows where Jason went? Or that the Roman camp knows more about CHB?
- Percy has to go through some trials before the Romans will except him, blah blah blah. But let's skip to the important quote of important-ness. Percy did some badass things with water upon arrival. But this quote is just after he finishes:
“Percy stood on the shore. His clothes and his skin steamed, as if the Tiber’s waters had given him an acid bath. He felt exposed, raw, and vulnerable.”
He felt exposed, raw, and vulnerable.
