I'd do sparkle text or something, but I don't know how and can't be bothered firguring it ut right now. though if someone knows a tutorial I'd appreciate it!

Anyway: JOB!

At the moment it is only from September until 17 December (end of term), but that's only because that's how long they definitely know how long they'll need me. They're waiting for the Governors (that's Board of Trustees in NZ speak) to appoint a new Head Teacher and that will be either for January or April. So it might be extended until April or even longer.

The school seems really nice, everyone I met was just friendly and helpful and down to Earth. I took the class I will be teaching for a trial lesson this morning and they seemed pretty good (of course the Acting Head and Deputy Head were in the room at the time). The class won't be trouble free, and there will be a couple of behaviour issues. But the school has a 'good' rating for behaviour in its Ofsted report (overall the school is 'satisfactory'.

The school is on 50% free dinners, where the national average is 16%. It has 300 students and they come from backgrounds with 42 different languages and from 70 coutries so BIG cultural mix, but that's okay (that's much more what I'm used to than the very monocultural Alameda). It has a high transient population so lots of comings and goings, which could be a problem (but not too much of a big one).

I go into meet them on Wednesday next week (officially) as their new teacher.

The school will take me a little less than hour to get to (and from), which is not bad considering this is London, and will cost very little in terms of travel (it's in the same zone as me), which is nice.

london, teaching, journal, interview
