Church yesterday was amazing. I'm really still not sure how I feel about the whole christian thing in general, but it's really the most inspiring place I've ever been so far. I come out of there every week not feeling like my ego has been stroked or my liberal-white-middle-class guilt has been appeased, but good about myself and reminded that there is always the possibility of change. And not just the sort of hope where you wait long enough and something good finally happens. I'm not someone who's natually active and I recognize this and it has been bothering me for a long time that I didn't know what to do or where to start. And I realized something yesterday: I'm in school so I will be of better use to the world. AND there are already things I can do now. I don't actually need to wait anymore for Right Livelihood. So. I think I'll be tutoring next semester. I was actually rather disappointed to find out that America Reads is only for people with work study. And yes, this is actually a big step for me. I've been stuck in frustration for a while. I think I'll be paying more attention to the CSL mailings from now on, too.

We sang "Lift every voice and sing." Halfway through "We shall Overcome" everyone put down their books and we stood hand in hand. The love and hope in that room...

And no one is alone.

Concordia is another. It fits the bill so perfectly... teaching children, teaching about other cultures, languages and environmental studies, peace studies and global politics are very important to the language villages. And everyone there is so kind. It's just one of those few places that is just right to begin with, rather than one of those things that needs fixing.
