I guess that I'm always listening for your feet upon the ground

I got my computer back on Tuesday. The computer being gone for a solid week was not so great but the fact that it came back with the video card fixed (which means a new logic board, which is like it having a new brain), a new dvd drive, and a 320gb hard drive (200 gb more than before) all for just the price of the upgraded hard drive (and that even ( Read more... )

Oh, but I am. I am! (and not even sarcastically). Same list, right back at you 'cause this is not working on a website and it's interesting to me, anyway. Boy, am I ever procrastinating today.

1. Pete Bernhard: Silver 2 Blue, 141
2. Snow Patrol: Chocolate, 127
3. Matthew Good Band: Sort of a Protest Song, 110 (I LOVE this song therefore you should listen to it)
4. Josh Ritter: Anne, 105 (weird I would have bet money that that would be Golden Age of Radio)
5. The Devil Makes Three: The Plank (just like you!), 92
6. The National: 90-Mile Water Wall, 91 (I always put this song in fannish mixes I never show to anyone but myself) you should listen to them they are AMAZING. Here is another favorite (and the song that introduced me to The National: Daughters of the Soho Riots. And another All The Wine)
7. Iron & Wine: On Your Wings, 90
8. The American Analog Set: Immaculate Heart, 80 (they are also very awesome so I must share)
9. Elbow: Fallen Angel, 80
10. Radiohead: I Will (No Man's Land), 76
11. Damien Rice: Cheers Darlin', 74
12. The Postal Service: Sleeping In, 74
13. Bruce Springsteen: State Trooper, 73 (it makes me very very happy that State Trooper is my #1 Springsteen song. As it should be.)
14. Nick Drake: From the Morning, 70 (not what I would have picked, Man in a Shed or Pink Moon)
15. The Reindeer Section: Budapest, 69 (did you know Gary Lightbody wrote this song about the son that he does not yet have and would it would feel like for him to be born? I find that fascinating)
16. Tom McRea: Karaoke Soul, 62
17. Jeffrey Foucault: Americans in Corduroys, 59
18. The Mountain Goats: Riches and Wonders, 59
19. The Libertines: France, 59
20. Wilco: Via Chicago, 57

There are a lot of covers that I love the same or even more than the originals, those included. See also, Redbird's You Are The Everything, Hold On and Ships, Mark Kozleck's Trucker's Atlas, Jeffrey Foucault's album of John Prine covers, The Decemberist's Everyday is Like Sunday. And those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head. THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER.

There's a woman in The Devil Makes Three and in the earlier Mountain Goats (but not my top song) and with Damien Rice sometimes. But really, I don't listen to women that often and when I do it's women with low voices. I don't like high girl voices. Coincidentally my friend and business partner who I used to share an office with when we worked freelance making catalogs together feels the exact same way. Very convenient!

I had to get all the way down to the top 559th song before I found a woman.

Top 5 women:
1. Gillian Welch: Ruination Day (Part 2), 42 (559)
2. Redbird (sung by Kris Delhorst): Ithaca, 32 (837)
3. Joni Mitchell: A Case of You, 19 (1411)
4. Ani Difranco: Graden of Simple, 17 (1555)
5. Frou Frou: Breathe In, 16 (1630) this is an anomaly from when I was obsessed with Garden State.
6. Erin McKeown: Dirt Gardener, 15 (1706)
7. Liz Phair: Perfect World, 15 (1724)

I felt I needed to keep going till I got to Liz Phair 'cause I have listened to her (and Ani) A LOT. Just way more on cds than in iTunes so I feel their low ranking is inaccurate. I wish there was a way to get the playcount of songs over the course of my life so that the things that have been my favorite since high school would show up in their proper spot.
