wouldn't it be a lovely headline?

I have been having a lot of fun over the last week reading through everything posted over at the porn battle. The one thing it has really cemented the fact that I will read Jack Harkness/Anyone even if I don't know anything about the characters or fandom of said anyone. Also, I find myself feeling nostalgic for the days of hp_drabble. I'd forgotten how wonderfully full a story of so few words can be. It's nice to be reminded.

A few of my favorite pornlets (I'll list them the way the do it over there Fandom, Pairing, prompt/prompts):
BtVS/Friday Night Lights, Faith/Tyra, false
James Bond/Harry Potter, Hermione/James, magic
Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, longing, home, tea, tempting
The X-Files, Mulder/Scully, end of the world
RPF, David Tennant/Billie Piper, nails
Firefly/Torchwood, Saffron/Jack, lipstick, con artist
Iron Man/Torchwood, Tony Stark/Jack Harkness, time travel

Despite the fact that I'm not nearly as into Supernatural as I used to be (see the fact that though I am quite interested in it's existence I haven't gotten around to watching 4x13 yet) it makes me very happy every time I see the two door '69 Impala with a KAZ2Y5 plate on it that lives two towns over.

I finally watched the last two episodes of Friday Night Lights (once I realized that that was all there was going to be for this season I felt the need to savor it, but then once I watched on I ended up watching both in a row anyway). I hope we get a fourth season, but if we don't I'm satisfied. Also, I'm not sure I want an FNL with not Tyra or Tim or Landry or Lyla. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I am slightly disappointed that Tim did (or will I guess) go to college and didn't stay and work in the garage with Billy. A lot of this, I think, has to do with turnonmyheels' fic in which Tim owns a garage (it makes me very happy when when fic I like comes true in canon), but the rest of it is that if feels to me like a discounting of the skills that Tim possesses. There is nothing wrong or shameful about being a really excellent mechanic. Yet, I'm conflicted 'cause clearly that was the easy way out for Tim, he wouldn't have to work so hard at things that didn't come easily to him. But on the other hand what's wrong with him deciding that what he wants to do for a living is something that he's really good at? What's wrong with him making a decision about what to do for a living that doesn't result in going into debt before he even has a job?

On the other hand I am super proud of Tyra and happy for her going to college as if she's a real person that I know. I do feel like the college journey is different with her, though. She worked so hard to get there and wanted it so badly and Tim just kind of feels pushed into it.

I'm reading to much into this I'm sure (and also projection), but there you have it. I have nothing against higher education (some of my favorite people are academics) but I do have something against the perception that if you don't have a degree of some kind you can't and won't ever be able to find meaningful, good paying work. That the type of job you can get without a degree is somehow less worthwhile than the type of job you can get with one.

Well, that was really more about my issues with how society views schooling, or lack there of, than it was about FNL but there you go. I still really love FNL and I think this season was amazing.

Oh, and this: Oh, What a World by such_heights is a truly wonderful little Doctor Who vidlet. I can't help but sigh dreamily just thinking about it.

doctor who, captain jack harkness, btvs, torchwood, david tennant, iron man, vids, good omens, harry potter, recs, supernatural, fnl, x-files, james bond
