you and me lying on the tile floor trying to keep cool

It has been brought to my attention by longsunday that everyone in the world may not be aware of the amazingness that is Josh Ritter. I feel I must do my part to remedy this. He's a little bit Bob Dylan, a little bit Nick Drake, a pinch of Tom Waits, a little bit country, a lot folk and a whole heap awesome. His songs feel like travelling, often are about travelling (and I'm not even going to try not to pretend that most of them don't make me think of Supernatural). And on top of that he's got some of the best lyrics I heard lately. Every time I listen to his songs I fall a little bit more in love. I'm sure I've uploaded some if not all of these songs before, but there are just certain tracks that I couldn't not include.

From Golden Age of Radio (which is my favorite in case you couldn't tell from the number of tracks):
Golden Age of Radio - This is THE best song to play really really loud and sing along to while driving (or, you know, wherever you happen to be). The picture they took of you in your cowboy hat / Makes you look like you are one of the boys / Out on a Saturday night, meanwhile on the outskirts of the dance hall / I'm a joke that you'd probably enjoy

Harrisburg - Another kick ass driving playing loud song. It's a long way to Heaven / It's closer to Harrisburg / And that's still a long way from the place where we are

Lawrence, KS - Makes me think of SPN. Big freaking surprise with that title, I know. Some prophecies are self-fulfilling / But I've had to work for all of mine / Better times will come to me, God willing / Cause I can't leave this world behind

Other Side - This song makes me want to jsut get in my car and drive in the worst way. It's like the beginning of a road trip when the whole of everythign is in front of you. or something. Also, so very SPN. So at night I sit and watch for stars to stay / They wink and then they're gone down the Milky Way / But when you're left in the middle of the Midwest sky / Everywhere you look is the other side

Come and Find Me - This first line here, best freaking lyrics ever. I swear. If I could trace the lines that ran / Between your smile and your sleight of hand / I would guess that you put something up my sleeve

From Hello Starling:
Wings - this song is a story, a lovely bitter sweet story. I want there to be a book or a movie or a fic or something that's like this. She was driven to distraction-said I wonder what will happen / When they find out they’re mistaken and the land is too changed to ever change

Kathleen - I know you are waiting and I know that it is not for me, / But I'm here and I'm ready and I saved you the passenger seat. / I won't be your last dance, just your last good night. / Every heart is a package tangled up in knots someone else tied.

Snow is Gone - You were beautiful when I first saw your feathers and confectionery airs
Like the earth it up and promised you the stars but you really didn’t care / I sang in exultation pulled the stops-you always looked a little bored / But I’m singing for the love of it-have mercy on the man who sings to be adored

Bone of Song - Lucky are you who finds me in the wilderness / I am the only unquiet ghost that does not seek rest

From The Animal Years:
Girl in the War - Peter said to Paul / "All those words that we wrote / Are just the rules of the game and the rules are the first to go"

Idaho - All that love all those mistakes / What else can a poor man make? / So I gave up a life of crime / I gave it to a friend of mine

From Josh Ritter:
Hotel Song - This song puts the biggest grin on my face. Say the highway is for lovers, but he ain’t no friend of mine, because every time I find my heart, I lose it to that long yellow line

Morning is a Long Way Down - I never asked the hard questions / I never tired to transform / I was always just waiting to be born / But now the sun's tied with night chains like Prometheus bound / and morning is a long way down

Letter From Omaha - I can't sleep with all these hand me downs / battered up checks and fading dreams / every new love seems to spin away / like steam escaping through the seams

Also, I am going to see him in concert tomorrow with starcatsinging. Yee!

Next order of business: BSG. I'm now up to ep10 of S2 (though sadly I won't be able to watch anymore 'til the weekend due to the boyfriend's not being around, and then my not being around. I am and awesome girlfriend for waiting, though, so awesome). But yeah, holy shit do I ever love that show! And holy shit do I ever want me some Kara/Lee fic. gah. *eyes femmenerd* I have a hard time containing my squee every time they're on screen together and they totally overshadow everything else (which is to say that I love so so many things about the show and the characters and EVERYTHING but omg. Starbuck and Apollo. can't think). I am hardcore shipping a het pairing, and I love it. wtf?

It took me fucking forever to make this post. I blame the insane heat that makes me feel like I have a fever even though I don't. But I do have a sore throat. Maybe I do have a fever. See, the heat has addled my brain. I think it's about time to go swimming.
