In 1933, Noel Coward premiered a play called Design for Living, which clearly, without any doubt, portrayed three people in a multiple person relationship. It seems to be generally understood that the play also contained bisexuality, though that is somewhat less explicit.
1933, and they have play about polyamory. It is interesting, because it seems to be a reminder that it is simply one of those things that exist in the human condition as a possibility. Differing living and relationship arrangements have been around for all time. Z commented that it seems like we have made so little progress, as the problems the people in the 1933 play are still around. I think that in some respects we have come a long way. We just also have a long way to go as well.
It plugs in well with all my thinking about just what kind of relationships I want to create and share in as part of my life. I think that I shall have to return to reading Opening Up and revisit a few interesting sci-fi versions of things, Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Friday, and others.
