Going slightly mad

Jul 20, 2006 23:27

Alright, so I'm updating from my aunt's house in White Plains. Their internet has just returned after it got knocked out by a storm. Just in time for my visit. Bless you, webgods.

After a fairly uneventful flight I dropped off my bags at my aunt's office on 5th Ave and scuttled over to the library where I read A E Houseman's The Shropshire Lad which Barnes and Noble told me would be orderable for a considerable fee and might arrive in a month. Bugger them. I left NYC Public library in a hazy book-high. God, I love that place and my desire to go to librarian school is rises mightily from the ashes of indecision once more. Shut up, I've had a couple of glasses of champagne, I'm at liberty to be poetical.

Then I curled up on the steps outside my aunt's office and read my own book until it was time to head back to White Plains. The Time Traveler's Wife, which takes place in Chicago. It's odd, having to transpose the Chicagoan locations into New Yorkese while I'm here, since the two cities are perhaps the most similar of the US's biggies, but also very different.

Night.
