I finally held one.

As soon as I walked onto the porch everyone started pointing fingers at me and pushing me towards the loveseat.

Peer Pressure!

"You must hold her"

"Let him hold her"!

I was like...No No...really, No. I'm okay. I did not want to hold the baby. All I really wanted was to scratch its ear and see if it purred like a cat.

But, you know the rest - I didn't have much choice. 6 headstrong women and my complaints were lost. As soon as I sat the baby was passed gently into my arms.

Remarkably, it was rather...quiet. She slept and slept and I could feel her breathing through the blankets. I'd expected something with a deep pink, raisin-like face but instead I saw the minute smooth features of a baby doll. It was actually very cool. A living, breathing tiny person - I'd never been so close to one before or had the responsibility of cradling a small human life in my clumsy arms.

And I thought I wanted a budgie next.
