None of this is at all set in stone and I'm not sure of it, but still, cut for spoilers just in case. I dunno. Anyway, It's about who dies in Harry Potter and the ???????.
The one dimensional thing does drive me nuts. I've been ranting about how we still don't know what size/shape/colour most of the girls are either -- what does Lavender look like? Katie Bell? Alicia Spinnet? It's nuts. Harry's friends with them for 6 years and yet there's no description at all. *sigh* And I do feel sorry for Lavender despite it all -- I wrote a Ron/Lav fic for an exchange where I tried to give her a little dignity back.
I didn't hear about the Trio part so I stand corrected. I'd only heard the Ron-shippy part and it really bothered me. Because it's like Tonks in HBP -- utterly useless. LOL I do want Hermione to go on to do something good -- she doesn't have to be the Minister of Magic but it would be nice to think she's not just cooking and cleaning for Ron. *sigh*
Heh heh, don't start with me on Bill. I've got all sorts of theories about him, none of them good (at least in canon). I even wrote a story about how the wolf-curse made him immune to Fleur's Veela powers and he realised she wasn't the girl for him. Yeah, I'm mean. I don't think I'd care if we'd seen a better side of her in HBP but she was so rude, so unlikeable and so..ugh that the little reveal at the end just didn't ring true to me. I know there are people who defend her and say Molly was at fault -- she wasn't very fair but it's not as if we saw Fleur ever try to win her over. All she did was bitch and moan and complain about everything -- just like she did in the past. It just would've been nicer if she'd gotten along with someone. Ah well.
This is one of the reasons I still wonder if they'll live happily ever after. Although I suspect they will. Feh. ;)
It would make life easier if Jo would describe some of the girls- honestly, I'm sick of hearing the debate about whether Lavender is blonde or black. People are getting offended for no reason - I've seen some "What, you don't want her to be black?" comments, or "That's stereotyping blondes!"
When you think about it, basically all the guys in HP have their looks described. It is weird that Alicia and Katie have gotten nothing.
Ugh. Hermione would never be happy cooking and cleaning, and I doubt Ron would want her to do so. I've heard a lot of arguments that he expects her to be like Mrs. Weasley - mainly from H/Hr shippers - but there's no way he doesn't think Hermione is going to go on to have a sucessful career. He knows she's intelligent.
Yeah, the ending scene with Fleur was... odd. That line "I am good looking enough for the both of us", I was kind of like... whaa? And her whole thing about that the scars show he's brave... dunno. It seemed off.
Naw, you're not mean. I kind of like that idea, actually!
Hmm. I think that Molly and Ginny would probably be mean to whomever Bill (who seems to be Ginny's favorite brother, and the first born son) gets engaged to. But I doubt they'd be that horrible. They'd probably have made an effort if Fluer hadn't been all "Zis 'ouse 'as nuzzing but chickens and derrty dishes." She was just a snob.

Personally, I think that Jo's managed to tell us when someone is black (Dean, Blaise, Angelina) so I don't see Lavender as black, even if they made her that way in one of the films. She reeks of sort of white middle-class suburban princess to me, but what do I know? Plus doesn't that perpetuate a stereotype about what Weasleys Want (other than Bill, obviously) since: Ginny/Dean, Fred/Angelina, Ron/black!Lavender? :)
It would help though -- if there are regular characters interacting with your main characters, why the hell wouldn't you at least give a few lines of description here and there. Ron's sucking face with Lavender for weeks but we have no idea if she's a 5 ft 7 black girl with a 'fro or a 4 ft 11 blonde with huge tits or what. Personally, I see Lavender as a brunette but again, that's just me. ;)
I saw in some RPG that someone's sure Alicia is black too. Huh? What? Where'd that come from? And since Katie was actually part of the plot in HBP, couldn't we at least have gotten something about her? *sigh*
I don't see Hermione as being happy doing any of that and I think Ron wouldn't be happy with her as a housewife either. If anyone's gonna stay home and be domestic, it should be Ron. LOL Then again, I never would've thought Tonks would go from her OotP self to her HBP self (ugh!) so I wonder about where JKR's mind is sometimes.
As for Fleur, yes, yes and yes. I really don't understand her. I know what the point was supposed to be but it didn't ring true for me. And after the way she behaved all year, there's no way Ginny or Molly would just forget it all now that Bill's been hurt. Then again, Bill's a big fat wimp for letting it go on all year on both sides and not stopping it. He was clearly too busy being treated like a king (being fed, plied with wine and having his nose stroke in public) to deal with the feuding. *eye roll*
I think that Ginny would have been happy with someone else i.e. Tonks. Bill is obviously her fave brother but I think she'd like him to be with someone she could get on with. I agree about Molly though -- in one of my former RPGs, I played both Tonks and Molly and as soon as Bill and Tonks got engaged there, Molly started nitpicking stuff with her. In that case, it wasn't that she disliked her (hardly!), it's just that no one really was good enough for her baby boy. However, Tonks was putting herself in knots to please her mother-in-law instead of bitching about chickens and derrty deeshes and Celestia Warbeck songs. ;)
Yeah, I think Jo points out her colored/minority/insert-politically-correct-word-here students, to make sure people know Hogwarts has a non-white population. And I think it's kind of confirmed Lavender is white, because when she and Ron were snogging after the Quidditch match, you couldn't tell whose hands were whose. But still, the debate rages on. I don't know why I always pictured her with short curly blonde hair, but I have. And that doesn't contribute to the blonde stereotype, because this is how I pictured her before HBP, and she wasn't a ditz then.
LOL, What Weasleys Want... This is totally off topic, but I actually liked Dean/Ginny. Well, we didn't see much of it in HBP but when it was brought up in OotP, it tickled my fancy for some reason. Sadly, it was not meant to be.
Ron should totally be a stay-at-home dad. I mean, I sort of want him to get to be an Auror, since it's his dream job, but I really want Hermione to get a job at like the Ministry at whip their sorry corrupted arses into shape. They might want to hold off on having kids for a while. But I like the idea of Ron as a dad. One of my favorite completely fanon ideas is that Ron is a Molly-prodigy when it comes to cooking.
Bill's a big fat wimp for letting it go on all year on both sides and not stopping it. He was clearly too busy being treated like a king (being fed, plied with wine and having his nose stroke in public) to deal with the feuding.
Word. I was kind of amazed by how non-confrontational he was about it. But like you said, he was busy with some very important things. //sarcasm//
I think Ginny would have been happy with Tonks, but not many other people, because if it was someone she didn't know and already like, I could see her getting hostile. Molly would be at least a bit harsh no matter who it was, I agree. And, yeah, Tonks would be better than Fleur, of course. She's way more down to earth.
