. . . which means the gloves I've had on for nearly a year regarding Barack Obama have got to come off. Obama is not a progressive, he's not a leftist, especially not a socialist. At best he is a centrist. At worst, he seems to be willing to sell out progressives that voted for him on almost every single issue ( Read more... )

Obama is not a centrist, he is a third wayist, he believes in a fundamentally freemarket system with the government propping up the welfare state with subsidies not government programs(that is health care,retirement,unemployment,disability etc). That is why he was willing to dump the public option and why single payer was off the table from the get go.

Shame with the political mandate he got in to office with he could have pushed many wonderful progressive programs.

We can't count on Obama to do the right thing, so we need to push the congress to do it, First thing that needs to be done is end the filibuster. The 60 vote thresh hold does nothing for progressives and everything for conservatives. simple majority 50+vp and we wouldn't have to dance around the blue dog's anymore. We need to end minority rule in the United states.
