Robert@MoveAmericaForward.org sent me some right-wing spam about a pro-Iraq War commercial. I almost have to wonder if this email was a joke.
One of the funny quotes in the email: "I love your work, (Move America Forward), I am a contributor and will continue to be one, thank you so much. End the liberal opression (sic)- vote Republican! "
Umm, where have they been? Republicans have had control of the Presidency since 2001 and congress since 2003 -- how can they be "repressed" by liberals? If you are feeling repressed as a "conservative", you are probably either living in the Netherlands, or you are feeling the effects of several years of corrupt Republican rule and the ineffectual Democratic response to it.
Also, just knowing the meaning of the word liberal and understanding the meaning of oppression seeing makes me cringe to see them used together. From
Merriam-Webster online dictionary: Main Entry: lib·er·al Pronunciation: 'li-b(&-)r&l Function: adjective Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin liberalis suitable for a freeman, generous, from liber free; perhaps akin to Old English lEodan to grow, Greek eleutheros free I'd be embarassed to send out a mass email like this one (emphasis mine)

2 a : marked by generosity : OPENHANDED liberal giver> b : given or provided in a generous and openhanded way liberalc : AMPLE, FULL

Here's the definition for "oppression" (with 2 "p"s):
Main Entry: op·pres·sion
Pronunciation: &-'pre-sh&n
Function: noun
1 a : unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power b : something that oppresses especially in being an unjust or excessive exercise of power
2 : a sense of being weighed down in body or mind : DEPRESSION
The words liberal and oppression are practically the opposite of one another. I don't know what you can expect from modern "conservatives" in these Orwellian times, though -- after all it was Bush and his admin that coined the titles "Blue Sky Initiative" for policies that make the sky less blue, or the "Healthy Forrest Initiative" which is destructive to forrests.
The email also continues the fallacy that the Iraq war was in response to 9/11 and that troops are in Iraq to defend our freedoms rather than following the game plan of The Project For A New American Century.
I would be embarrassed to send out a mass email with those kinds of errors on it.
