Okay, with this I have to announce, that I decided to drop Open Door for the time being. I like to write it, but somehow I'm more up for the serious stuff. I will most likely continue writing Open Door, but I won't update regualry as for this one and the Akame one I have in mind that will most likely follow after this one.
However, I hope you're going to enjoy this fanfiction. ♥
Title: Moments
Pairing: Tegomasu
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance, Fluff, slight Angst
Disclaimer: I don't own the boys or anyone else in this story. Only the plot is mine.
Summary: It's basically quite simple: Masuda falls in love with Tegoshi and even though Tegoshi is in love with him, too, there are some problems and obstacles they'll have to overcome. It starts in November of 2006, shortly before their trip to Sweden.
A/N: Sorry, there's not much Tegoshi action in this first chap, but, of course, that will change with the next one. I'm not sure yet where this will actually lead me to, since it was planned as an one-shot, but I somehow had too many ideas for what to happen, so I'll just made it a multi-chap. There won't be that many chapters most likely, however. We'll see.
I hope you'll like it! Have fun reading! ♥♥♥
First Moment: How does it feel
The day Masuda had fallen in love with Tegoshi was the eleventh of November in 2006.
He could remember that day perfectly; it had been Tegoshi’s nineteenth birthday. They had not even been together that day, but even so, Masuda was absolutely sure it’s been the day he had fallen in love with Tegoshi.
Perhaps, he had been in love with him before, probably even since he had first met him, but on that cold November day he had realized it for the first time; so for Masuda it was the actual date he had fallen in love seriously for the first time.
Right at that time, in his world there was only the existence of Tegomasu. Because of some unfortunate happenings, as Masuda would name them, NEWS had been put on ice for a while and he and Tegoshi had been given the chance to continue singing together.
Masuda had always liked to sing with the younger one, so he didn’t mind it at all. He’d been happy about that decision; even though, in a way, it felt like they were leaving the rest of the band out.
Because even if NEWS had been inexistent in his world for that time, he still felt they were a band; all eight of them. And he was sure, it wouldn’t take too long until they all would sing and perform together again.
Until then he wouldn’t have to worry about being alone; he’d have Tegoshi with him.
It was just a few days left until they’d go to Sweden together and Masuda was already quite excited about it. He had thought about what to get Tegoshi for his birthday for a long while and had finally come to the conclusion it should be something practical for their trip.
He had bought a stuffed toy that looked like Tinny.
Masuda was sure it was the perfect gift for Tegoshi since the younger one would miss his dog so badly; Masuda knew the drama from when they were on tour in Japan. Usually, they’d share a room and Tegoshi would start to whine about how much he missed the dog at about the second evening. So, since they’d stay more than two nights overseas, Masuda was sure Tegoshi would fall into that usual pattern.
However, he wasn’t able to meet Tegoshi as he had planned in the morning of that day.
Masuda got up at about nine; sleepy and with his eyes still closed he made his way to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Only, when he got back to his room he remembered and with his hair still wet and water dripping from it to the floor, he made his way to his huge colourful bag and checked its content. He saw the small wrapped present and smiled.
Everything was prepared; he’d give it to Tegoshi later on that day when they’d meet for another discussion about their trip to Sweden.
As his mobile rang he recognized their manager’s number and picked up. “Yup, I’m awake; no worries.”
A small laugh answered him from the other side of the connection. “I thought so. You still have more than an hour before the meeting’s set.”
Masuda made an agreeing sound.
“But I’ll be at yours in about fifteen minutes. They changed the schedule and we’ll have to be at the location an hour earlier.”
“Okay”, Masuda said calmly and hung up then. He sighed, then he clapped his hands onto his knees before he got up and returned to the bathroom.
It was already late in the afternoon when Masuda came back to the office. He’d gotten a pass today, had given an interview and had prepared details with their management over the whole day.
But he hadn’t met Tegoshi once so far. He just remembered that fact when he followed his manager inside.
“By the way; why am I doing all this alone? Where’s Tegoshi-kun?”
“He’s been here while we were out. He got instructions and the schedule for your trip already.” He turned to the brunette boy and smiled. “You’ll do the same now.”
Masuda briefly nodded and followed him inside a room to listen to instructions, go trough their set schedule for those three days overseas and agree to all kind of meetings they had already set for them for the next two days.
As he left, his mobile rang and Masuda had some troubles finding it in the huge bag. He took out the nicely wrapped gift and sticking it under his left arm he picked up the phone with his right hand. “Hello?”
“Takahisa, where are you?”
“Ah, sorry, mom, I was at the office. My schedule was a bit busy today”, he apologized and walked on.
“You said you’d drop by today; you know, to get the list” she reminded him.
“The list, yeah.” Masuda really couldn’t remember what she was talking about, but he figured it’d be best to just go over and get her what she wanted. “I’ll come over now, okay?”
“Okay, fine.” He knew she was smiling. “I’ll make dinner, so hurry.”
“I will.” With that he hung up again and walked down the corridor to their changing room. Ryo was recently only using the Kanjani one and Koyama and Shige didn’t use it at all. They only came here for meetings. So, recently, it was basically Tegomasu’s room, though Yamashita was using it as well; but Masuda never actually met him. His rehearsal times were different from theirs.
“Tegoshi, happy birthday”, he sing-sang in a happy voice as he opened the door. He frowned as he found the room pitch-black in darkness and switched on the light. No one was there; only a faint smell of Tegoshi’s perfume was lingering in the air. So, after all, he had been here.
Masuda sighed and turned back again, deciding to go home. He thought about calling Tegoshi, but it was only six in the evening; there was still a possibility they’d meet today. So he put his phone and the gift back to his bag and got to the next train station to get home.
He was slightly moody; what was untypical for him, actually. He was quite patient and didn’t get fed up that quickly, but somehow it made him feel really uncomfortable that he hadn’t seen Tegoshi so far today.
Since they had been practising singing together for a while now, they had been together every day of the last two weeks. It felt strange to not have Tegoshi around.
Masuda frowned while he sat in the train and stared out of the window. It didn’t only feel strange. It felt as if it was wrong.
He was missing Tegoshi.
But, he thought and slightly shook his head, that was only normal since he had gotten so used to be with Tegoshi every day.
He got out at the next station and walked the rest of the way to his home. It had gotten cold and Masuda rubbed his hands together. He hadn’t brought any shawl or something similar, so he pulled his jacked up to his chin to warm his throat. He couldn’t effort to catch a cold now. With the sun setting on a grey turning sky behind him he reached home and opened the door, sighing at the comfortable warmth that hit his face.
“Tadaima.”
His sister’s head appeared in the doorframe to the living room. “Eh? I thought you were in Sweden?”
“We’ll go on Monday”, he only explained.
“Bring something nice for me”, she told him and disappeared again.
Masuda got rid of his shoes and opened his jacked, before he walked in and straight to the kitchen. “Hey, mom.”
“Ah, there you are.” She turned to him and even though she was smaller than him she patted his hair. “You’re frozen.”
“It got cold, yeah.”
“I thought about making some Miso Soup for you, but you’d only whine again when you get nothing else” She guided him over to the table to sit.
“That’s a bad joke.” Masuda gave her an amused smile, though.
“It’s the last time you eat at home before you’ll depart, isn’t it?”
He only nodded and took the bowl she handed him. “You really made it.”
“Of course, of course.” She got over to the cooker and filled another bowl with rice, then she got a plate with meat and set both at the table. “Eat up.”
“Itadakimasu.” Masuda took his time to eat and while doing so, he told his mother everything they had scheduled for them for the few days they’d spend in Sweden.
“You really need to buy some things for me, Takahisa”, she said and gripped a paper that was lying at the other end of the table. “I wrote it all down for you.”
That list, Masuda thought and looked at it. It was quite a lot his mother wanted, but he was sure he’d have some time to get it for her. They’d surely get some time off to look around. They wouldn’t have the chance to go to Sweden that soon again, after all.
“Ne, Takahisa”, she dragged him out of his thoughts then. “Isn’t it Yuya-kun’s birthday today?”
Masuda’s eyes widened and he quickly looked up to the clock at the heater. It was almost nice by now. “It is, yes.”
“Well, well, he’s surely with his family. But tell him my best wishes tomorrow, will you?”
Masuda nodded; though he knew they’d both be off the next day for personal preparations. So, he’d only see Tegoshi on Monday.
“I’ll probably go over to his now”, he said as he got up.
“You can’t!” His mother got up, too. “Your dad is coming home every minute and you can’t leave without having seen him once again.”
“I can drop by tomorrow.”
“We won’t be here tomorrow, Takahisa, you know that.”
Ah, right, they were going to meet his sister’s boyfriend tomorrow. “Well, then I’ll go when dad is back.”
It took another hour, however, before his father came home and then he was forced to stay with them, since all four of them barely were home together lately.
When he could finally leave it was after eleven and he wouldn’t make it in time to see Tegoshi anymore.
Pouting, Masuda dropped down at a bench on his way to the train station. His sister had refused to drive him over to his apartment, so he had to take the train. It wasn’t that far away, however.
Looking at the gift, he decided to finally call Tegoshi, even though he felt really dissatisfied with a simple call for his best friend’s birthday. That wouldn’t make him any more special than Tegoshi’s other friends.
But, Masuda realized, he actually wanted to mean a lot more to Tegoshi than anyone else did. He didn’t quite know what that confusing feeling was.
“Massu”, Tegoshi answered the phone. “I thought you wouldn’t call anymore. Did you forget?”
Masuda smiled and leaned his elbows onto his knees. “Of course I didn’t.”
“Koyama came to my home to give me a present”, Tegoshi told him. “I was so surprised. He got me a really cool shirt. And Yamashita and Shige both wrote me messages. They’re wishing us good luck for our trip. I’m so excited already!”
“My mom told me to give you her well wishes for your birthday, too.”
“Thanks a lot.” Tegoshi’s cheery voice calmed Masuda. “I think you’re the last one to call me today. Even Ryo-kun called already. Though, he hung up before I could even say a Thank you to his congratulations.”
Masuda laughed and leaned back again. “I’m sorry my call comes that late. I thought I’d meet you today.”
“Oh, yeah, sorry. I shifted everything to the morning to take the afternoon off. I’m with my family. We’ve been to a fancy restaurant and then to a concert.”
“A concert?”
“My grandma wanted to do something special, since she’s sure I’m going to die in a plane crash.” Tegoshi answered in a serious voice.
“Your grandmother thinks you’ll die on our way to Sweden?” The older one couldn’t hide his amusement.
“She never actually mentions that, but she makes strange comments.”
“She’s always been funny.”
Tegoshi laughed. “I guess.”
“Tegoshi”, Masuda said then and waited a moment. “Happy Birthday.”
“Thank you, Massu”, the younger male answered. “I’ll see you on Monday then?”
“Sure. I feel like we’ll die together that day.”
Tegoshi laughed. “Don’t let my granny hear that!”
“Good night, Tegoshi”, Masuda just said.
“Good night, Massu.”
Masuda hung up and titled his head back, staring at the dark sky. He sighed. Another day without Tegoshi lay ahead of him and he didn’t quite know what excuse he could make up to call the younger boy again tomorrow. It’d be enough to only hear his voice, to listen to that soft laughter.
He stared at the sky, then closed his eyes.
Missing Tegoshi, wanting to hear his voice, thinking of him and aiming to be special to him--- it all had just one obvious reason.
That was the day, the moment, Masuda Takahisa realised he’d fallen in love with Tegoshi Yuya.
