"Kazuya? Where are you? I'm worried sick. Call me, if you get this."
Jin hung up and sighed, watching the screen of his mobile phone. Two hours had passed and by now, Natsuki was up already, getting ready in the bathroom and Jin felt like a mess, unable to do anything but dial in Kazuya's number over and over again.
He had known Kazuya wouldn't be in the house. Even so, Jin had gone down to the kitchen - a small part of him had hoped Kazuya would stand in the kitchen, making breakfast, because he just hadn't been able to sleep. He would turn to Jin and despite everything that was going on, he would give him a smile, lean back into Jin's arms, when Jin would embrace him from behind, pull him close, kiss his neck and whisper all those words he wanted Kazuya to never forget.
Kazuya had obviously forgotten or else he would not have gone like that.
The kitchen had been empty, the cold light of the morning sun had filled the room and Jin had stood there for a while, watching the window, the rays getting thinner, until they had disappeared.
Then, Jin had phoned Nakagawa, telling him about Kazuya's disappearance.
It wasn't a question where Kazuya was. There was only one place he would have gone to. But Jin didn't know the place.
The police could not have found Kensaku, so why did Kazuya know where to go? Why had Kazuya known where to find Kensaku and why hadn't he talked to Jin?
Jin dialled in Kazuya's number again and cursed as he just got his voice mail again.
Kazuya had taken his mobile - that meant he wanted Jin to be able to reach him. But why didn't he pick up? Why didn't he just come home?
Jin looked up, as Natsuki came running into his room. She was dressed already and brought her hair brush, handing it to him. "Papa, you have to do my hair!"
It had gotten quite long, Jin thought, as he brushed her hair. She had used to wear it short, but he hadn't taken her to the hair dresser in a while. The tips already reached her shoulders.
He knew that she would want him to make any extravagant hair-dos, as soon as her hair would be long enough, that's why he had always insisted on a short-cut.
Jin tied her hair in a simple tail and took the clip she handed him, tying back her fringe.
Natsuki turned to him and grinned slightly, before she pressed a kiss to his cheek and rushed out the room again.
Jin tilted his head back, as she was gone, trying to collect himself. He jumped, as the telephone next to his bed rang and dashed forward to grab and answer it.
"Akanishi-san", a polite voice asked and Jin sat back on his bed, disappointment washing over him. "Akanishi Jin-san?"
"Yes", Jin answered.
"I'm Taguchi Junnosuke, solicitor. Detective Nakagawa gave me your number and contacted me about your situation."
He had completely forgotten about that. Jin closed his eyes again, ran a hand over his forehead. "Can you meet me at my hotel? I have a few things to do there, before I leave."
"Of course. What time?"
Jin checked his watch. "Thirty minutes. I'll be waiting for you there."
As he had ended the phone call, Jin got dressed and left the house with Natsuki. He had his mobile phone always ready to pick up, always a short glance at it.
Deciding that it was too risky to have Natsuki go to school today, Jin drove her to his parents. She pouted at him, but didn't protest.
"Be good and don't make gramps by any toys for you."
Natsuki nodded and leaned in to embrace Jin. "Does Kazu-nii pick me up?"
Jin managed a weak smile. "I don't know yet." He buried his face at her neck for a short moment, breathed in his daughter's scent as if it was a life elixir and left then to get to the hotel.
It was a quiet day, not many departures, not many arrivals. He checked at reception first and frowned at the list he saw there.
"What is this?"
"A list of things that need to be done and fixed today", the receptionist boy answered. "Kamenashi handed this to the staff."
Jin looked up, his look puzzled. "When?"
"Earlier. He came in at about five and left the list, before he went off again. At about half past five", the receptionist answered the question Jin had just been about to ask.
"Did he say anything about where he would go or how to reach him?"
The boy shook his head. "No, just that he had something important to do and..." He sat up and turned around, opening a drawer. "he left you this."
"What?"
"He said one of us should hand this to you once you come in."
Jin checked his watch, before he gripped the envelope. Almost seven. If he had called the hotel right the moment he had found Kazuya gone, he would have been able to grab Kazuya, to make someone here stop him from leaving.
"Thanks", he mumbled and went to the back office. Closing the door behind him, he stared at the envelope in his hand and wondered why he was afraid to open it.
He really didn't want to know what was in there.
Taking a deep breath, Jin opened it and jumped slightly, when his door was knocked. Turning, he slid the envelope into his pocket and opened up.
"Akanishi-san, there's a visitor for you."
The solicitor, Jin thought and followed the receptionist out. He saw the tall man with an extremely friendly face and wondered immediately, if that man could really beat him out of his misery. He looked like he would give way to anyone.
Chestnut hair, a long slim face, small, friendly looking eyes and a calm smile.
"Akanishi-san, it's nice to meet you", he said and held out a hand. Jin shook it and nodded his head as a greeting. "Should we sit somewhere to talk things over?"
Jin led him to the office and closed the door. "Actually, a few things came up and I have to go as soon as possible", he said and sat down across from Taguchi. "I'll explain everything to you."
Taguchi tilted his head slightly, as he got out a notebook and a pen. "Where do you have to be?"
Jin lowered his look. "I told Nakagawa, I'd be at the station as soon as possible."
It was afternoon already and Jin sat at a table in the station, staring at his mobile phone. Nakagawa was in the room, too, as well as Taguchi.
Nakagawa had told Jin that the only chance they had was trying to locate Kazuya's mobile phone, as soon as he would call. That way, they would find Iio Kensaku, as well.
Jin kept staring at the screen, praying for Kazuya to call and release him from that painful fear in his chest.
"Didn't he mention anything, when you came home tonight?" Nakagawa had tried to make Jin remember any sign a million times already.
Jin shook his head. "He wanted to speak, but I silenced him, saying he shouldn't wake Natsuki." He remembered that look, the calm smile on Kazuya's face and knew that he should have been able to read it - but Jin hadn't and now, it was too late. He didn't mention it; it wouldn't help and would only make him feel worse than he already did.
"Did you search the house? He probably left a note somewhere", Nakagawa tried further.
Jin's head shot up and he stared at the detective for a moment. "He left an envelope in the hotel for me."
Nakagawa raised his brows. "You mention that just now? What did it say?"
Jin pressed his lips together. "I didn't open it."
"What?" Nakagawa gave him a shocked look. "Where is it?"
"In my jacket", Jin murmured and pointed at it hanging on the wardrobe. "I just don't want any farewell words."
"Open it", Nakagawa said and held it out for Jin. "You have to."
"If you want to know what's written, you open it." Jin shook his head.
Nakagawa gave Jin a long look, then he opened the envelope and got the folded piece of paper out. He glanced at Jin again and put it to the table.
"Nothing that would give us a clue", he said and turned to walk back over to the wall.
Jin looked at it for a moment, the folded paper - untamed, without a single mark - and reached out to stuff it back into the envelope.
Farewell words, he thought. As he had expected.
How dared Kazuya doing this to him?
He buried the envelope in his pocket and kept staring at his mobile, gripped it, dialled Kazuya's number again. Nakagawa and Taguchi silently watched him, pity in their eyes. The steady ringing, the voice mail; he couldn't take any of it for much longer. Crushing the phone back to the table, Jin got up and ran his hands through his hair.
"Why did he even take the damn phone, if he doesn't pick it up?" He kicked the chair. "Isn't there anything I can do? I can't just sit here and wait for anyone to tell me it's too late, that it's over, that he's gone."
"Akanishi..."
"No, damn, he won't call!" Jin slammed his hands to the table. "He just won't! I know him, I know him more than anyone and I'm telling you, he will not call and he won't answer my calls. He will do what he thinks is the right thing to do. But damn, he's wrong!" Jin felt his knees give in and he didn't care for dropping to them. "He's wrong."
Nakagawa calmly went over to put the chair back and helped Jin to sit down again. Jin trembled, his face was pale, his eyes red from the lack of sleep, the worry and the tears that glimmered in them.
"Calm down, Akanishi", he said.
"How could I?" Jin's voice was quiet now, even steady. "He's with that guy who wants to see him dead - and I can't do anything about it and neither can you."
Nakagawa nodded. "But you underestimate Kamenashi, don't you?"
"I'm still seeing him in that hospital bed, all pale, blood in his hair", Jin murmured. "That's what I can't get out of my head. I don't want to ever see him that way again. I need to do something."
"I think what you need to do, is going back home, getting your daughter and spend the evening with her. It will calm you down."
Jin gave him a long, tired look. He didn't think it would make any sense to argue. Nakagawa just wouldn't understand.
"Yeah", he answered and nodded. "Probably."
Nakagawa sent him home, after Jin put up a small fight over his mobile phone. But he understood, why they had to keep it there. He just wasn't comfortable knowing that all chances were taken from him now. Unless he found the place Kazuya was at right now, Jin had no chance of getting in contact with him.
So, actually, he didn't have the slightest chance of contacting Kazuya.
By the time Jin reached home, he was completely divested. He felt drained and at the end of his powers. On his way, he had stopped by his parents, asking them to let Natsuki sleep over at their place. At this point, he wouldn't be able to handle her and he didn't want her to notice something was wrong.
Jin just needed a bit time to himself. To think things through, to decide what to do, to just sort his mind.
When he reached Yamashita's house merely an hour later, he was already completely wasted.
"Jin, what's gotten into you?" Yamashita frowned and opened the door a bit wider to let Jin stumble in.
"I need a drink", Jin said and made his way to the living room. "And you're the one having the drinks."
"This is not the hotel bar", Yamashita reminded him.
Jin reached the couch and frowned, as he wanted to fall onto it. Ryo sat at the end of it, hair messy, face flushed, his shirt wrinkled.
Jin turned again and looked at Yamashita, noticing the bare chest.
"Great", he murmured. "Just great."
"Jin...", Yamashita started, but cut it off, when Jin stumbled over to a chair.
"No, you guys be just happy. No one will try to crush it", he said and shrugged his shoulders. "You guys just haven't done a huge mistake that you'll have to pay off."
Ryo frowned at Yamashita and then, got up. "Jin, what's wrong?"
"He's gone", Jin said lowly. "Kazuya's gone and I don't know where he is."
Yamashita dashed forward and stopped in front of Jin. "You mean he left you? Again?"
Jin shrugged. "Again, yeah. We haven't really kept it up, have we?"
Yamashita made a vague movement of his head. "What happened?"
"My past happened", Jin answered. "And he's trying to correct it. But who would be so stupid to go meet the guy who tried to kill you once?"
Ryo sat down next to Jin. "He's meeting with Kensaku?"
Jin gave Yamashita an indignant look and his friend just gave a helpless shrug. "I had to tell him."
"He's meeting the asshole? If it was just meeting him, he'd be back by now." Jin buried his face in his hands. "I need a drink"
Yamashita got to the kitchen and came back with a glass filled with bourbon liquid. Jin told them everything, nipping from the glass in between, until it was empty and eventually, they sat in silence.
"He'll be fine", Ryo tired to cheer up Jin. "He most likely knows what he's doing."
"Kazuya?" Jin laughed slightly. "He's just so impulsive when he's angry. I doubt he thought this through. Acting tough again", he added mumbling.
At a loss for words, Yamashita and Ryo both kept quiet and Yamashita got the bottle from the kitchen, placing it next to Jin's glass.
Jin appreciated it with a small nod, before he filled his glass again. Ryo kept sitting next to him, watching him getting even more drunk, but didn't say a word, while Yamashita got out a bedding from a cupboard and placed it on his couch.
"You can stay here tonight", he said.
Jin looked up, his eyes glossy, his eyelids heavy. "I’ll be going home."
“No discussion. If you drink yourself to death, I want at least a chance to call an ambulance”, Yamashita argued. Ryo nodded in agreement, as Jin gave him a look.
“Yeah, whatever”, he answered and took the glass again. “Doesn’t make a difference.”
Yamashita and Ryo quietly left the room and Jin stayed back in silence, watching the liquid in his glass.
He had never thought that he could get this crushed, that he could be such a mess over someone else. Kazuya completely owned him - every part of Jin was Kazuya's.
So, what would he be without Kazuya?
Drowning the rest of his drink, Jin got up and made his way to the couch. He stripped off the jacket and shoes and fell down to the linen, buried his face in the pillow.
How could he sleep, when Kazuya probably needed him right now? How could he, when probably, maybe...
He shut his eyes and rolled to his back, feeling dizzy. The room was spinning around him and Jin suppressed a moan. He opened his eyes again and stared at the ceiling for a moment, waited for the feeling to fade.
It wouldn't, so he reached down and pulled the envelope from his pocket. Getting it out, he cursed under his breath and fumbled with the paper, until he had it unfolded.
I haven't forgotten, Jin. Not a single word.
I'll be back tonight.
Jin stared at it for a moment longer, before he lowered his hand and crushed the paper up in his fist. He covered his eyes with his arm, his breath heaving, before he let out a small, bitter laugh.
"Liar", he mumbled to himself and choked on his breath, trembling, before he curled up.
"You just keep lying until the end."
Jin would be so mad at him.
Kazuya looked at his watch and closed his eyes. He'd be furious; by now, he had probably lost his mind already and Kazuya couldn't resent him for it.
It was after two in the middle of the night and Kazuya wasn't home - far from it, to be precise.
Kensaku sat at the other side of the glass door, his lower lip swollen and still bleeding and he held his chest. Obviously, he was in pain. Kazuya thought that maybe he had broken one of Kensaku's ribs. However, he had received just as much as he had given.
His face felt swollen and his jaw hurt, so Kazuya had given up on speaking.
It wasn't of use, anyway. Kensaku wouldn't let him go. He had locked Kazuya up in the room and he had somehow managed to take Kazuya's mobile, when it had started ringing at some point.
Since then, it had ringed over and over again and Kazuya had just wanted that damn battery to die, so he wouldn’t hear it anymore.
Frowning, Kazuya still looked at his watch, noticing that it hadn’t been ringing for more than five hours, actually. So, Jin might had given up?
No, he wouldn’t, Kazuya thought. The battery had just finally died.
“Holding me hostage here, won’t get you anywhere”, Kazuya mumbled and saw Kensaku sit up at those words. “You either come in here and I finish beating you up or you make a move and contact Jin. Or else I’m of no use for you.”
“Shut up”, Kensaku spitted at him. “It’s none of your business.”
“Pardon?” Kazuya managed a weak laugh. His jaw still hurt. “Exactly why did you call me out then?”
“How could I know you would beat up my face, before I could even say a word?” Kensaku ran the back of his hand over his lip that just wouldn’t stop bleeding. “You’ll pay for that.”
“We have quite some bills to pay off already”, Kazuya commented. He coughed and held his head afterwards, pressing his eyes close, as a sudden pain struck him. Not another concussion, he thought. Jin would pamper him for days, not letting Kazuya even get out of bed.
Then again, he hadn’t had anything to eat or drink in a while and his injuries just added up to it.
“And you won’t pay them all by yourself”, Kensaku said lowly.
Kazuya opened his eyes and saw that Kensaku had come back into the room. The door was closed and before Kazuya could even give a reaction, Kensaku pulled him up by his collar and slammed Kazuya with his back to the wall. A fist hit Kazuya’s stomach and he moaned slightly, but fought back, pushing Kensaku away.
Kazuya’s phone fell to the floor and for a moment, Kazuya thought about his options, but decided against picking the phone and attacked Kensaku again. Kensaku could avoid Kazuya’s foot, but not the fist that was aiming at his face. Rage let his skin turn red, his eyes became furious and he turned them, straddled Kazuya and ripped a part of Kazuya’s shirt in the process.
Kazuya struggled beneath him, being smaller and skinnier, he didn’t really have a chance to fetch away and he took one beat after another.
Kazuya’s phone started ringing again and both stopped. Kazuya breathed heavily, turning his head, looking at his phone. He should have decided for it; he really should have.
Kensaku’s lips formed an ugly grin and he climbed off of Kazuya, taking the phone, waving it in his hand.
“Look, he’s still not given up”, he said mockingly.
Kazuya watched him, rolled to his side and coughed again, shook his head.
“Let’s see how he likes listening to me beating you up.”
Jin strolled back into the station at half past two.
He hadn’t gotten any sleep and it would be a waste to pretend he would fall asleep tonight. He just wouldn’t.
By now, he had sobered out a bit, but he did have a major headache, felt nausea in his stomach and his worry about Kazuya was just even worse than before.
“Akanishi”, Nakagawa said in surprise, as Jin was led to his office.
Jin had actually not expected to find Nakagawa still at the station. He didn’t comment at it, though. “Did anything turn up?”
Nakagawa shook his head. “Nothing. A team is still trying to locate Iio-san, but there are no clues yet.”
Jin nodded. “Can I stay? I’m…” He shrugged, a helpless gesture. “I can’t really calm down, if I don’t know what’s going on.”
Nakagawa gave him a long, calm look, before he pointed at the chair across from him. “You can keep watching your mobile.”
Jin saw it on the table and nodded, before he sat down.
Nakagawa went back to his paperwork and Jin sat in silence for a while, watching him. He licked his lips and stared at his mobile phone, wondering if Kazuya probably couldn’t call him anymore. Cables were connected to his phone. One to charge it, another one that Jin assumed would help to locate Kazuya, when he’d call.
If he’d call.
Jin watched Nakagawa again and then reached out for his mobile, dialled in Kazuya’s number once more. Nakagawa gave him a short glance, but didn’t say anything.
Ringing. It kept ringing and Jin lowered his look, about to hang up, as a heard the light click.
“Kazuya”, he said, voice unsteady. Nakagawa’s head shot up and with a look, he got several men rushing over.
“Where are you? Seriously, I’m going to beat up your pretty face for this”, Jin growled.
“Too late”, Kensaku answered calmly. “I got that done for you already.”
Jin bit his teeth together and exchanged a look with Nakagawa. A man next to him had earphones and apparently, listened to the call, as well.
“Where is he”, Jin asked.
“Angry that I took your favourite toy?” Kensaku laughed. “I messed him up a bit. Want to talk to him, Akanishi?”
Before Jin could even say something, he heard a numb noise and Kazuya moaned slightly.
“Leave him”, Jin said, shaky; fear apparent in his voice. “Leave him alone.”
“It’s his own fault”, Kensaku answered. His voice got a little muffled then, as he said: “Come, Kazuya, why don’t say something to Akanishi? Some last words?”
Jin heard a spitting and Kensaku’s angry yelling, before the connection was cut.
“That was long enough”, one of the men said. “I located them. They’re in a vacated house in Ueno.” He gave Nakagawa the address.
Jin got up, too, but Nakagawa held him back. “You wait here, Akanishi.”
“What, please?” Jin shook his head. “There’s no way…”
“You’re waiting here. We’ll contact you, when the situation is under control.” With that, Nakagawa hurried out of the room.
Jin stared after him and dropped back to his chair. A numb feeling held him there for a good minute; he thought he didn’t feel his feet, they were so heavy. His hands were cold, his breathing heavy.
Jin thought he’d lose his nerves any moment now, but instead, he recalled the call and a small laugh escaped him.
Kazuya had rather spitted on Kensaku than taking the chance to talk to Jin.
He shook his head and took a deep breath, before he got up and hurried out of the room.
There was no way he would wait for anyone to tell him he could come and see Kazuya. Jin wouldn’t just sit and wait.
He had to get to Kazuya.
“You’re not going to do it”, Kazuya murmured, as Kensaku had held him by his collar, hand fisted and aiming at Kazuya’s face.
“I am just about to it”, Kensaku responded, but held back the hit.
Kazuya smirked and it burned like hell, but he still kept it up. “You made a mistake and you already noticed it yourself.”
Something lit up in Kensaku’s eyes.
“Jin may took your toy”, Kazuya went on, “but you’re taking more than that from him. And you know that.”
“Shut up”, Kensaku groaned out and placed the next beat. Kazuya’s head flew back and he shook it lightly, as he raised it again, gave Kensaku a keen look.
“You never loved him and you hate to see that Jin got what you never had”, he mumbled. “You hate him for having me.”
Kensaku aimed again, but this time, he stopped halfway and pushed Kazuya away.
“He doesn’t deserve it, not the slightest bit.”
“It’s not up to you to judge that.” Kazuya took a deep breath and slid down with his back to the wall.
“But up to you?” Kensaku held his chest again, pressed a hand to his side, as he leaned forward, apparently to soothe the pain.
“I know him, at least.” Kazuya closed his eyes, as he leaned the back of his head against the wall. It didn’t matter anymore what would happen from now on.
“What?” Kensaku managed a laugh. “He’s arrogant, full of himself, possessive, spoilt”, he answered.
Kazuya smiled slightly, gave an appreciative nod. “Describes him pretty well.”
"He's only thinking about himself", Kensaku murmured and crouched down on the floor. "Even turning in himself for what he did to Masatao - he only chose it to as the easier option."
Kazuya watched him with keen eyes and slowly got up again. He walked over to Kensaku, who gave him an indifferent glance.
"He doesn't regret it. He just feels sorry for himself, but not for Masato" Kensaku took a deep breath, pain running through his system because of the motion. "He's only concerned for himself."
Kazuya leaned in and gripped Kensaku's shirt, pulled him up, waited for Kensaku to face him.
"You don't know a thing", Kazuya hissed and shook him. "You have no idea what he's been through or how he feels about what he did."
Kensaku hadn't seen him, Kazuya thought. Kensaku hadn't seen the look on Jin's face, when he had confessed his sin to Kazuya. He hadn't seen the look on Jin's face, when he sometimes got absent-minded, when he was obviously remembering that time, those days - and when regret would be written all over his face, painfully obvious.
Kazuya only realised that his fist crashed into Kensaku's face over and over again, when someone repeatedly called out his name, tugged him back, off of Kensaku.
The red mist in front of his view cleared and he looked around, saw Nakagawa who held Kazuya's hands and several police officers who surrounded Kensaku.
Kazuya blinked and his knees gave in; he sank to them and took a deep breath. But Nakagawa pulled him back up and out of the room, out of the corridor and into the fresh night air. It was chilly and Kazuya really couldn't walk any further; he just wanted to sit down, close his eyes and drift away.
"Kamenashi", Nakagawa said loudly, clearly.
Kazuya blinked at him. "I need to go home. I promised to be back. I'm late."
Nakagawa turned and said something, rather yelled it, but Kazuya couldn't understand. A moment later, two men came over and supported him and then, finally, he sat down. Bright lights blended him and hands were all over his body, his face was held, someone looked him in the eyes.
"Kamenashi-san, can you understand me?"
It was like waking up. Kazuya felt it kick into his body, his eyes were open, but he opened them wider. All his senses came back and he heard the beeping of the machines around him, the voices of the paramedics, felt the soft fabric of the stretcher they had placed him on.
"Yes", he said and nodded. "I do."
"Got him back", a woman said. "He's just been in a temporary state of shock." She brought a bottle up to his lips and made him gulp down some water.
Nakagawa nodded at her and turned his attention back to Kazuya. A paramedic took care of his face and Kazuya hissed at the stinging pain.
"Kamenashi, what the hell happened?"
Kazuya licked his lips and tasted blood. He shrugged. "While Jin was at the station, I received a call from Iio", he answered.
"You should have informed us the very second he called."
Kazuya smiled slightly. "He said he wanted to meet me. Settle things. I was the only one who could settle this", he added. "After all, his problem was Jin having someone he loved."
"Kamenashi..." Nakagawa sighed. "He could have killed you."
"Actually, I didn't think I'd get out of this alive." Kazuya shrugged. "But he didn't have a plan; I think he wanted to figure what to do, while he kept me hostage."
"I need to go check on him", Nakagawa said and gave Kazuya's shoulder a pat. He strolled off and Kazuya had to answer several questions from the paramedics.
"I won't have to go to a hospital, do I?"
"Maybe." The woman smiled at him, her dark hair tugged back in a tail. "The other guy will have to. You almost beat all life out of him."
Kazuya gave her a long stare. "He just made me really mad."
"I think you're fine", she said. "Your face looks worse than it really is."
Kazuya raised a hand to his eye and hissed slightly, as he touched the swollen skin. "Crap."
"It'll be okay soon."
A few minutes later, Kazuya was released and he stepped out of the ambulance car and watched Nakagawa and his partner surround the other one.
Frowning, he watched them for a moment longer, wondering how bad he had injured Kensaku. Then, he noticed someone approaching him from his left and turned his head.
Jin hurried over, his expression terrified and angry at the same time.
"Kazuya!"
Kazuya had to bite back a laugh. He had heard that tone only once on Jin and that had been, when he had come to Kazuya's flat in Osaka, after Natsuki had ran away from home.
Jin stopped in front of him and lifted his hands. He raised them to Kazuya's face, but didn't touch it; his look turned pitiful.
"Kazuya", he repeated, softer this time.
Kazuya managed a smile and took a step, closing the distance between them to lean against Jin. He nuzzled his cheek against Jin's shoulder, closed his arms around Jin's waist.
Jin sighed and wrapped his arms around Kazuya. He closed his eyes and let the feeling sink in, before he drew away and looked at Kazuya again.
"Just how stupid are you exactly?"
Kazuya made a guilty face and shrugged. "He's the one who's getting to hospital this time around."
Jin shook his head. "Look at you! You're completely beaten up."
"I won't have to go to hospital. It's all not that bad", Kazuya assured him. "But I beat the shit out of that asshole."
Sighing, Jin ran a hand over his face. "What the hell...?"
Kazuya lifted his hands, framed Jin's face and gave him a long look. "You're drunk", he noticed.
Jin laughed silently. "Not anymore."
Kazuya frowned, but didn't comment further on it. "Nakagawa will most likely want a statement from me", he said. "You should go home first."
"You don't expect me to really take my eyes off of you again, do you? If I don't watch you every damn second, you just disappear, pulling off something stupid."
Kazuya pouted his lips. "What? I settled this, didn't I?"
Jin sighed, smiled a bit. "You'll never change. You're just a cheeky brat."
"You're the only one thinking that", Kazuya commented.
"Because I am the only one who knows", Jin answered and drew Kazuya back into his arms. He sighed and pecked Kazuya's forehead.
Kazuya smiled and nuzzled back against Jin.
"I'll wait here with you", Jin murmured. "I'll take you home."
Kazuya nodded, smiled, as Jin took of his shawl and wound it around Kazuya's neck. They stood like that, with all the hectic going on around them and even though his wounds were still fresh, he felt tired and cold, exhausted and sore, Kazuya knew that it had finally ended.
With everything around them being a surreal blur to him, Kazuya felt that this was his eventually - Jin was.
Eventually, things were exactly how they were meant to be.
Epilogue
Christmas time, Kazuya thought, as he stood in the kitchen and hummed along to a song playing on the radio, was just the best time of the year.
It snowed outside and he would go out in the afternoon - taking Natsuki on a sleigh ride. She would absolutely love it.
He smiled slightly, as the images formed in his head. He could probably even get Jin to tag along.
A silent noise made him move his head and he saw Jin in the door frame to the kitchen, watching him. He wore just boxer shorts and his hair was all messed up from sleep.
Kazuya smiled slightly. "You're awake."
"Not quite. Why are you?" He stepped in and stopped behind Kazuya, placing a kiss to his nape.
"I need to be at the hotel at about seven."
"It's Sunday, pretty", Jin commented and slid his arms around Kazuya, pulled him close. "We should go back to bed."
Kazuya smiled slightly. "We really shouldn't." He turned and placed a light kiss to Jin's lips. "You're having a meeting with Taguchi-san today, don't you?"
Jin made a face and nodded. "He's making those really bad puns. I really doubt he'll manage the situation."
"He says it looks good for you. I have faith in him."
Jin shrugged and shoved a hand beneath the tank Kazuya wore. "That meeting's only at ten. Plenty time to have breakfast together."
Kazuya smirked, running a hand into Jin's messy hair. "You're not thinking of breakfast right now."
Jin smirked. "We'll go to the hotel together", he argued. "You finish fixing up whatever you're fixing there and I'll be quickly get dressed and wake Natsuki. We'll have a nice Christmas breakfast."
Kazuya sighed, looked at Jin for a moment longer, before he nodded.
Jin grinned and turned, hurried up the stairs, while Kazuya turned and kept on making breakfast. He turned when Jin came back in, dressed in sweatpants and a shirt now.
"She's not getting up yet", he said and shrugged. "Just flipped the blanked back over her head and turned around."
"She's usually not that bad with mornings", Kazuya commented and walked over to Jin. He had turned off the stove, coffee was ready.
Jin watched him, didn't move and kept his eyes on Kazuya's, as he kissed Jin. Jin returned in, every move, every caressing stroke, peck, nibbling. He ran his fingers over Kazuya's face to his jaw, over his neck and felt ease, as he found his skin sooth and soft. No bruises anymore; everything had healed.
Kazuya pushed Jin to the stairs and Jin grinned slightly, biting Kazuya's lip gently.
"Are we just on our way up back to bed?"
Kazuya's lips formed into a smile beneath Jin's and he pushed him further, made his way up the stairs, his hands running along Jin's lines, over his chest, down his sides to his back. He kicked the door open with his foot and stopped in front of the bed, fully kissed Jin again.
Jin ran his hands down Kazuya's arms, raised a brow, as he smiled.
"I thought you didn't want to get back into bed with me."
Kazuya flashed a grin, laced his fingers with Jin's and smiled, slightly as he watched their entwined hands. Then he looked up at Jin with clear, bright eyes.
"That was a lie."
