It's just not that easy...
097.Marriage
Humming the melody of the song, Tegoshi looked at the lyrics, tried to remember them.
“I like the song better than the actual single”, he pointed out and kept memorising parts of it, looking over to Masuda at the couch across from him.
They were alone in the studio, waiting for the people recording the song coming back in from their cigarette break.
“I don’t like it”, Masuda just answered, shrugging a shoulder.
“You don’t? But it’s a romantic song, isn’t it?”
Masuda nodded. “It is, and that’s why you like it. It’s all cheesy and romantic and sad.”
Tegoshi laughed, knowing Masuda was right with what he said.
“It’s a nice song, indeed, but I don’t like the idea.”
Tegoshi tilted his head and frowned slightly, his look questioning.
“Someday, this is what we’re going to end up like”, Masuda just explained, dropping the paper. “I’ll be at your wedding and wish you all the best for your future.”
Tegoshi fell silent for a moment, looking at the text again, reading over the lines.
“That’s sad”, he said then, realising Masuda was right with what he said.
One day, they would have to part, because staying the way they were now was not an option. They would have to part, even if they didn’t want to and watch the other one become happy with someone else.
Tegoshi felt his stomach tighten at the idea of seeing Masuda holding anyone but him.
“That won’t happen”, he said then and looked up at Masuda again.
“We both know it will.”
Tegoshi shook his head and put his elbows to his knees. “You’re going to get married earlier than me, because you’re older.”
Masuda chuckled. “What kind of logic is that? That one year, Yuya…”
“No”, Tegoshi said firmly. “There’s no way I’m going to leave you, if you don’t make me. So, if you don’t find a nice girl to marry, then, you won’t get rid of me that easily.”
Masuda still smiled slightly. He knew Tegoshi was sincere and serious about what he said, but it still wasn’t that easy.
They wouldn’t be able to go on like this forever.
“So, if I’d told you one day I found a nice girl and if I can’t marry you, then, I’d at least want to marry her, you would accept things like that?”
“I wouldn’t have a choice, would I?”
“You’d make me cheat on her every week”, Masuda pointed out.
Tegoshi laughed, but it didn’t sound as cheerful as it should. “I wouldn’t!”
“I’d want you to make me cheat every week.”
Tegoshi’s laughter died and he looked at Masuda for a moment, about to answer, but the door opened in that moment and the staff came back in.
“Okay, we start recording the song now”, one of them said and Tegoshi stood up, walking over to Masuda’s side.
They exchanged a single look, a slight smile, a chaste touch of hands.
And they knew no matter how much they fought it, sometime they’d had to face reality.
