Buffy was the first person that Elphaba decided to trust at camp. Well, as much as Elphaba can trust someone, that is. She's also the first one that Elphaba started to talk to about her past grief - which surprises and bothers her, as she hasn't attempted to talk about it in a long time. Ever since their emo-bonding, Elphaba's been a lot more careful about noticing when her emotions are getting the better of her. Even so, Elphaba has always enjoyed being in the company of other intelligent women, so Buffy will likely continue to be someone with some influence on her. Their conversations help her comprehend - or at least successfully overlook - the craziness that is camp. She figures if someone like Buffy could adapt to it, then she can as well. She's curious to hear about more of Buffy's past, but she tends to not ask about past experiences because she knows she doesn't usually appreciate it when asked about her own.
They've talked about their lost boyfriends that they caused the deaths of - and Elphaba sees Buffy as the one who was able to get past that (hence her relationship with Kon), while she's doomed to be stuck by it. This makes her slightly sad, but also relieved that such escape from it is possible. Buffy's defense of her during the mess with Stan deeply surprised Elphaba, as no one has tried to do that before. As a result, Buffy's the one who Elphaba most often tries to break out of her rather closed off state for - whether it be to comfort her or to help her out. In other words, Buffy's the one who triggered Elphaba's change in camp from apathy to actively aiding those she has taken interest in.
...I have the feeling all of that made no sense. ^^;
