Oh, god, woman. I'm sobbing here. Sobbing like a little girl who just dropped her ice cream, skinned her knee, and had her bike stolen by that jerkwad down the street.
Is it wrong that I feel so giddy that you felt that way?
Okay. Serious game face now.
I think that it's almost impossible (for me at least) to write an Inception fic that doesn't relate in some vital way to Dom. The movie is very much about Dom and about his complicated journey towards accepting his vital role in his wife's suicide and everyone else is just there for the ride. Also, seeing as how the 'real' Mal attempted to force Dom into a suicide pact with her I see Mal being just as obsessed with Dom as he was with her. The two of them really can't survive without the other. Which makes the film a rather scary study of a pair of soul mates.
While I do want to believe that Dom got his happy ending and was reunited with his children, there is a part of me that doesn't wonder whether or not Mal was right and they hadn't actually returned to their reality. I mean, Dom was so desperate to return home, he might not have questioned his reality like Mal did, and don't forget that he had been down in limbo fifty years just like Mal, so his view would have been just as distorted. Which lends itself nicely to your theory that the whole movie is a dream developed by Dom's psyche and Mal is actually still awake and trying to wake him.
Have I mentioned lately just how much I love this movie and all of its possible interpretations? :D
