Word of mouth altered Younha of today's event, but the want to share her Christmas cheer with the younglings at the orphanage was what had her up early and leaving the apartment. As the festivities started and all volunteers were instructed to their places, Younha found herself paired with one of the more quiet boys. His name was Yejoon. He had glasses and was reading a children's book when Younha went over to the table he was seated at. He couldn't have been more than eight years old. Introductions were made, before Younha tried to strike up a conversation with the boy. Books were the topic, actually one in particular: The Lord of the Rings. Yejoon knew of the movies, had seen some of the trilogy at some point, and the moment it was mentioned his eyes lit up with wonder and curiosity about the knowledge Younha had of the world the stories took place in. Eventually, food was served and they continued their conversation while she made sure he ate.
"I like you, Miss Younha," Yejoon said after a while, as Younha was in the middle of reading to him. "I think I will marry you someday."
That really caught Younha off guard, even made her laugh a little, softly, as if she was a little embarrassed. "That's a lovely thought," she said, softly, mussing the little boy's hair gently, "but I'm already married, Yejoon-ah, to a man I love very much."
"Then, I'll just have to steal you from him! Yes! When I get older and smarter, I'll steal you right away! We'll go all the way to where the Elves live and hide!"
Younha laughed softly. "Aigoo, so cute," she said, giving the boy a small squeeze around the shoulders. "I'll warn him, then. It's only fair!"
Jihyun was passing by Younha's table when she heard Yejoon come up with some kind of marriage proposal; she had to fight the urge to chuckle. These children and their imaginations. As she was helping serve and clean up a table nearby, she couldn't help but overhear the conversation and shake her head in amusement.
She came up to Younha a little later, patting her shoulder gently and introducing herself as soon as she looked up. "I can't help but overhear your conversation," she began, reaching for Yejoon's head and smoothing down his hair. "Our Yejoonie is turning out to be such a smooth-talker, isn't he?"
The pat to her shoulder had the young woman looking up with a smile, introducing herself in return and gesturing for Jihyun to take a seat with them at the table. "He is," she answered with a smile. "Imagine how smooth he'll be once he's older." She whistled softly. "The girls will not be able to resist!"
"The only girl for me is Miss Younha," Yejoon stated with a nod, leaning over and gently clinging to Younha's arm, a wide grin on his face. "She knows all about Middle Earth and she even went to the places they did the movie once! She's perfect."
"Aigoo," she laughed softly, patting the boy's head gently and looking over a Jihyun. "It will be interesting to see how my husband reacts to this challenge. He's quite competitive - it's in his nature and job title."
Without another word, Jihyun took the invitation to sit with them. "Oh I don't doubt that. But Yejoonie, Younha noona already has a husband. You know what that means, right?" she asked, reaching for the child's chin and giving it a gentle pinch.
The child reacted with a frown, and clung to Younha even more. "It's not fair. Everyone is married," he said with a heartbreaking pout, to which Jihyun replied, "No, that's not true. You'll find someone like Miss Younha someday. She'll be as awesome, but single."
She turned to Younha then, even as Yejoon still latched on to her. "I'm sure your husband will find it amusing. What does he do?"
Younha had a soft heart when it came to children, so seeing the pout on Yejoon's lips made her melt a little and gently pet the youngling's hair. She addressed Jihyun's question first, though. It was always tricky for Younha to put the correct words together when it came to talking about her husband's job. It wasn't exactly something normal, after all. Businessman worked, but at the same time that wasn't all of it, and she often had trouble finding just the right words. "He's does a bit of a few things, but he's mostly an athlete right now. Speed-skater on the Olympic team, actually, hence the competitive streak." She smiled and spoke humbly, hoping that it didn't make her seem like she was flaunting the fame she had in association with her husband.
"Now it's really not fair," Yejoon mumbled, pouting still. "He sounds so cool."
"Aigoo," Younha chuckled softly, and motioned for the boy to climb up on her lap, which dwarfed Younha a bit more than necessary, but she wrapped her arms around him gently. "He's even cooler than me! I think you'd like him Yejoon-ah. He knows about Middle Earth, too and Star Wars and Star Trek. He even knows how to speak Klingon but he'd deny it if you asked him." She nodded twice, sounding serious about the subject before smiling softly. "Someday you will find someone even cooler than both myself and my husband and when you do, you have a very special set of things you need to do, right, Jihyun-ssi?" She looked over at Jihyun for a touch of help, finding that this would be a good little lesson to insert: how to treat a lady.
She had to smile when Yejoon whined a little as Younha revealed information about her husband. "I have to agree with Yejoon; he does seem like a really cool guy," she said with a nod, watching the little boy climb up Younha's lap and make himself feel comfortable. Jihyun wasn't very familiar with Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek though, so what Younha said next merely flew over her head. Still, it was nice to see Yejoon speak with someone who shared his interests. He looked completely enchanted, and happy, and that made Jihyun happy too.
The question didn't escape Jihyun though, and she quickly responded: "Of course! As you should to everyone else, a gentleman like you should be respectful at all times, honest, and loyal too."
"I'm... a gentleman?"
"Of course you are!" Jihyun affirmed, though inwardly cringing at the fact that little Yejoon might be thinking of the PSY song. "Of course you might wanna be something else, like... uh, a Jedi master. Or a uh..." she glanced at Younha helplessly, and then just shook her head. "... I mean, whatever you want to be... you should remember to always treat people well."
