“Come on!”

“No!”

“Why not, Reid? I go to Metro every year at new years. It’s kind of tradition. You don’t have to dress up or anything.”

“The added incentive of not having to wear a monkey suit just isn’t enough. Going out means socializing and you know that I just love making small talk. I’m better at making nurses sob hysterically,” Reid grimaced.

“Please,” Luke pleaded, “do it for me.”

“Absolutely not.”

“I’ll make it worth your while.” Luke waggled his eyebrows suggestively.

Naturally, there were two things that Reid absolutely would never refuse and they were sex and food. Now, if those two were combined, Reid would never even hesitate. However, this time Reid hesitated the tiniest little bit, most likely due to the fact that the cupboards were bare. But then Luke turned those beautiful, brown puppy dog eyes toward him and Reid knew he was a goner. He could never say no to those eyes.

“Oh, all right,” Reid relented. “But there better be good food there or I’m going to kick your ass later.”

“Thank you.” Luke pulled Reid towards him, put a hand on either side of his face, and kissed him with everything he had. For a moment, the whole world seemed to stop; the only two people that were in the world seemed to be them and the only thing they felt was the other’s lips on his.

When they broke apart, Luke rested his forehead against Reid’s for a second, before pulling back and looking directly into his eyes saying, “You will not regret this.”

“I’d better not,” Reid muttered.

A few hours later, Luke and Reid walked into Metro and even though they were dressed casually, they definitely were the two hottest guys in the room.

Luke spotted Will and Gwen seated at a table in the center of the cozy, spotless room. “Come here, there are some people I want you to meet.”

“You want me to meet more of your friends? I didn’t think you had anymore.”

Luke smacked Reid upside the head playfully. “Of course I do, you idiot. They live in Carbondale.”

“Out-of-towners? That means I get to see what their reaction is to this nut-job town,” Reid rubbed his hands together ecstatically.

“Actually, no. They both used to live here. Will is Barbara Ryan’s son and Gwen is Carly’s sister.”

“Damn, I was hoping to meet some Oakhell virgins,” Reid said disappointingly. “And isn’t there anybody in this town that’s not related?”

“Besides you? Nobody at the moment. We always bring in somebody to shake things up once in a while, though.” Luke grinned and Reid shook his head.

As they approached the table Will shot to his feet. “Hey, how’s it going man?” Will stepped forward and embraced Luke, while Gwen stood up, glancing at Reid suspiciously.

“I’ve been good, actually better than good,” Luke replied as he looked over his shoulder at Reid. Gwen moved forward to hug Luke as well saying, “We missed you!”

“Where’s Hallie,” Luke inquired.

“Barbara’s babysitting tonight,” Gwen said.

“Hey, who are you?” Will asked Reid curiously.

“Guys, I want to introduce to you my boyfriend Dr. Reid Oliver. He’s the head of the new neurological wing at Memorial.

“Hi, nice to meet you.” Will put out his hand for Reid to shake but he ignored it.

“Weren’t you just here a few months ago? Why didn’t you visit Luke? You are friends aren’t you, you’re not just pretending?” Reid stared pointedly at the two of them.

“Well, we were quite worried about Will’s mom. You probably heard that she was locked up in a warehouse for some time and then she was locked up in the wine cellar with Emily. And we heard about Luke’s problems with Noah, so we just decided we’d catch him at a better time,” Gwen explained.

“That’s no excuse. What’s wrong with you? Didn’t you think that because of his “problems” with Noah he might need a friend to talk to? Somebody that doesn’t think Noah’s a dumbass or a brat? I’m sure you weren’t that busy tracking down Ms. Ryan every minute of the day. Besides, I think she would have survived, after all she had that clown doll to keep her company, what was his name, Chuckles?” Reid remarked sarcastically.

Will and Gwen glanced down at the floor, their cheeks flooding with embarrassment. “We’re sorry, Luke. We didn’t think of it that way,” Will apologized and Gwen nodded her head in agreement.

“Apology accepted. You’re here now and that’s enough for me.”

“One question though,” Will asked as the four of them sat down. “How did he know we were in town then?”

“Katie,” Luke promptly replied. “They used to be roommates.”

“Where are Ms. Perky Sunshine and that drool machine? Seems like the kind of place she’d enjoy,’ Reid wondered.

Just at that moment, Katie appeared in the doorway, noticed Reid and sped eagerly over to him. “Hey, I’m surprised to see you here,” she smiled and hugged Reid happily.

“Luke dragged me here.”

“Don’t listen to him, Reid came more than willingly.”

During all of this Katie still hadn’t let go from her embrace. “Katie, would you stop, like now,” Reid implored. Guiltily, Katie finally disengaged herself from him.

“Where’s Jacob? Didn’t you bring him along so we could shoot the breeze and throw back a few shots?”

“Honestly Reid, Jacob’s with the sitter. This isn’t exactly the place to bring a baby.” Katie sighed and rolled her eyes.

“Do you want to join us Katie?” Luke invited.

“I’d love to, but I promised to spend some quality time with Henry. He’s been complaining that I haven’t seen him lately. Maybe I’ll catch up with you later.” Katie waved and left to go off in search of Henry.

In a few seconds, Carly came by and stole Will and Gwen from them since as she put it; she needed to tell her sister and her husband some important news.

“Gorgeous, isn’t he,” Carly had whispered behind the back of her hand as she whisked the two of them away.

“It looks like people were intelligent enough to beat it and leave us alone,” Reid stated.

“Yes, they were.” Luke moved his chair closer to Reid and rested his head on Reid’s shoulder.

A new song started playing over the loudspeakers. Luke exclaimed, “Oh, this is my favorite! Come on!”

“Come on what?”

“Let’s dance.”

“Dance? Are you insane? I don’t dance.”

“You don’t do anything. Reid, please?” Luke begged.

Those beautiful puppy dog eyes had turned their pleading look on him and Reid was a goner, again.

“Okay. But you owe me for this. Later. Tonight. In bed.”

Luke smiled the heart-melting smile that made Reid all warm and fuzzy inside, even if he would refuse to admit it. Before he quite knew what was happening, Reid was pulled up onto his feet and led out onto the floor. Luke clasped one of his hands in Reid’s and put the other around his neck as they swayed in time to the music.

“See this isn’t so bad, is it?” Luke murmured into his shoulder.

“It’s doable.” Reid thought it over for a few more beats, slowly lifted Luke’s chin until their eyes met and then said, “Although with you, it feels right.”

This time the kiss was soft, slow, and sensual. Luke’s mouth parted slightly, so Reid slid his tongue inside. Luke moaned extremely softly, so no one around could hear as Reid explored the inside of Luke’s warm, moist cavern.

Unfortunately, a scant second later they got interrupted. “Guys, will you just go and get a room?” Luke and Reid broke apart to find Katie staring at them. Katie giggled. “You know that it’s almost midnight? Time flies. You ready for the new year?”

“I’m ready for 2011, as long as I’ve got Reid, I’ll be fantastic,” Luke replied.

“I’m ready. I’ll kick some asses, make new nurses and doctors’ lives hell and have a little naughty fun with my man.”

“Here we go. Ten…..Nine…...Eight…..Seven….Six…..Five…..Four…..Three….Two….One…. Happy new year!”

Luke wrapped his arms around Reid, kissing him passionately, while Reid was kissing him back with equal fervor. Then they both hugged Katie in turn and bade her goodnight.

“Now, let’s go home so you can make good on your promise.”

“Don’t worry, I’m going to make good on that promise, and you will get much, much more because I went shopping this afternoon,” Luke smirked.

Reid flew for the door and Luke hurried after him, both thinking of what was to come knowing that the New Year would be definitely starting off with a bang.
