Got graphic novel vol. 23 of the Rurouni Kenshin series; as great as usual, although better than the first since more interesting stuff occurs, as in Saito officially rejoins the fray after the Kyoto arc and dukes it out with Enishi's Venom-like minion, the Kenshin vs. Enishi battle royale finally begins, and that was actually the real meat of the thing. What made that particular conflict so interesting was, of course, Enishi. God, I've officially fallen in love with that guy. It happened with Saito, it happened with Shishio, it happens now with Enishi; even though these guys are all messing with my favorite rurouni, they're just so amusing and cool, I gotta love them. (Actually, Shishio Makoto ranks as my #1 favorite RK character, with Kenshin, Saito, and now Enishi following in no particularly specific order.)
Anyway, back to Enishi mainly; once he rips off that cape, the white-haired avenger with the teeny tiny sunglasses looks hotter than ever, and I watched in awe and adoration as his fighting style unfolded for me that first time on those pages. (Watojutsu ROCKS!) His twisted fairytale narration pure evil, but the kind of pure evil that's fun, while at the same time being painful. And when he finally gets that major upperhand on Kenshin, actually defeating Hiten's Ultimate Move--no matter whose side you were on, that was truly impressive of Enishi, and I thought the explanation for it was quite clear, that even a fighting-knumbskull like me could understand it.
Oh, and the revelation of Enishi's true Jinchu...oh, what new levels of delectable evil were reached.... My guilty pleasure: the last page in the manga, where Enishi-sama has Karou all cornered, a wicked smile on his face and his sword so carelessly settled on his shoulder. (Important note: NOT a Karou fan; I do love Megumi though, as well as Misao, and Shishio's Yumi.)
Can't wait for RK vol. 24, and I think the month it comes out is the same one in which FMA DVD vol. 8 arrives.... *crosses fingers*
