She is paper.
Paper-doll arms and paper-doll legs and her blood is all just blue ink, spilled beneath her skin, ballpoint lines.
Paper just like her drawings, crayon scribbles. The sea and the sky and the land adorn them, scenery and souls.
She doesn't exist but she's here anyway, something make-believe scrawled on a page in blue and yellow and grey (for the shadows). After all, an artist can think up many things. A paper girl who doesn't exist is just as easy as a man made of flames or a boy, memories locked into keys.
Paper is pliable and fragile. It is easily manipulated into many shapes. She sits with her sketchbook and draws, because art is the only thing paper knows to do.
She is aware that the rose is dragging her further into a quagmire, but there is nothing she can do, and so she draws.
For better or for worse, at the very least paper knows to create, whether it be scribbles or memories.
