Interesting, if tiring weekend.
Friday I finally seemed to be able to get past most of the sick I've been feeling, so Saturday started out pretty good. The first expedition was to a small ice rink in Palo Alto to take Christopher skating with a group from his school. He was a bit uncertain at first, but got to the point of venturing small distances on his own by the end of the two hours we were there. As for me, I expected that almost thirty years of no skating would mean I was missing the ball due to a broken coccyx. I managed to survive with my skeleton intact, but my dignity in tatters. Oh well.
The ball was great. Christopher spent the evening with a teacher from his old school, so he was well looked after, and comfortable with the situation. We actually got to dance, quite a lot. Saw some friends, met some people for the first time, and got to remember how to dance. It's been too long - there were dances in the set list that I don't know, which seems wierd, but I still got almost enough dancing in before we had to turn into pumpkins to rescue Christopher.
Today started out sucking. Christopher was awake, both Kat and I were under the weather, so we all ended up fraying each other's nerves. I did go to fighter practice this afternoon. There was quite a mix of people out there. I got some of the rust blown off my field work, but I'm still slow, with a tendency to put down roots early in the fight. I was more comfortable with the shield than I expected to be, but Richard had me working on wrap openers. My wrap isn't very quick, and I was hanging it a bit. "Sword arms half off sale!" I'll be feeling that one for a while. Did a set with a guy from the Western Circle who's going to be kicking my ass once he gets into the tempo of SCA combat. That was pretty fun, too.
Now I should be writing. I'm staring at the synopsis and query letter process, and not looking forward to it. I think it's time for Ibuprofin and bed.
kid,
