Back in the saddle

I'm back at work after a very relaxed Christmas period. Work is going to be interesting in a good way for some time, it seems. The last game is trudging through the acceptance process, and looks to be on schedule for its street date.

I haven't done a lot of writing; it took getting hit with a big stick to get any writing done at all. I hope to improve that somewhat in the next few weeks.

I have gone back to Aikido, including, by accident, to a class by the founder of our dojo. Looking at the class beforehand, and considering I'd been to only two classes in the last three months, I thought "Everything here is going to go over my head. Except the mat, which will rise up and smite it." I was pretty well on target with that prediction. I did start training with a black belt who is very good at pointing out the next mistake to correct. Some senior students limit themselves to providing a good example; I value the direct description of what I'm doing wrong.

It wouldn't be a vacation if I didn't do some random pointless but fun stuff. I've now played Borderlands all the way through, and liked it. I've started on Left 4 Dead 2, and am not yet enjoying it. I've read almost all of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series; obviously I'm liking that. I've also mostly caught up with the Dresden books. I like both of these series well enough to have read the final books on my iPhone, using the kindle app. I've just started A Magic of Twilight, which seems good so far.

I've gotten Christopher the first book of four new series; maybe he'll now have something to replace Warriors books as his literary addiction - at least long enough for them to come out in paperback. So far, Maximum Ride and the Pendragon series seem to be hits.

I managed to gain only two pounds over the holidays, despite a fairly successful !Boxing Day brunch. Today I went to the blood bank and donated one of those pounds, so I'm well on my way to recovering. (It's a theory. It's wrong, but it's a theory.)

2010 will be an interesting year. With luck in a good way.

life, aikido
