I spent my birthday down at the shrine of the mouse. While I really enjoy taking the kid down there to play, I think next year something quieter is in order.
The highlight of the trip was dinner with two old friends; we don't see each other enough. And they're still sneaky, dammit. Rule one still applies, I guess.
Life has gotten kind of busy; we're not in full out crunch at work, but it's definitely time to get things done. This can be both good and bad - I kind of enjoy the intensity of having three or four issues on my hot list. On the other hand, yesterday ran twelve hours and I felt like a slacker for leaving so early; Wednesday ran ten, and I only left to try to make Aikido - which I didn't do because I wasn't physically up to it. I'll probably be in some this weekend working on a side project that will take some focused time.
I'm trying to get out fairly early tonight to do Aikido. Last Friday's class was a blast - starting with ten minutes of one-on-one training with a senior student, which consisted entirely of taking falls. Exhausting, but it did improve my confidence in my falls quite a bit. Saturday's class was mostly making old mistakes and trying to take in advanced concepts. More frustrating than Friday was, but probably more useful in the end.
I've got writing and politics rants coming on, but if I don't stop now I'll once again not post.
life,
aikido
