Pools laced with brilliant sulphides
arsenic, antimony and mercury.
Starlings leave their eggs
warming in the earth.
Alizarin crimson, cadmium, splashes of cool blue
colours crystalise on the cliff face.
Pigments bubble from the ground
steam streaks over the sky.
Pied stilts leave trails of tiny footprints
star-shaped indentations in the clay.
