Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I was thinking about getting my mom something different for Christmas. Mostly because when she tells me things she wants it tends to be things like "a brown belt" and a "new papasan cushion". Who gets their mother a BELT for Christmas?

So i was thinking about taking her somewhere and doing something different. Since my dad will not be around---for reasons i just don't want to go into---and my sister will be at our grandma's its the perfect time. I was thinking museums, theater that sort of thing but not in Toledo. Don't get me wrong, Toledo actually has a damn respectable art museum for a small industrial city but really that's about ALL it has. Ideally, i'd like to take her to Chicago but a three hour drive in who-knows-what-kind-of weather would not be advisable. So i decided Detroit would just have to do.

First, i started searching museums in Detroit. Unsurprisingly, they have a lot of museums devoted to the auto industry. Not what i was looking for. The Museum of contemporary art looked appealing but the exhibits they have right now just aren't really up my mom's alley. Then i went to the site for the Detroit Institute of Art and hit pay dirt. Their main exhibit right now is Monet to Dali: Modern Masters. 75 works by everyone from Matisse to Renoir to Van Goh to Dali to Monet. Did i mention DALI!! So i figured this would be a great exhibit to take mom to... BUT if we're going to go up to Detroit i want to do more than just go to the museum.

My next search was for theaters in Detroit and guess what? Wicked is playing at the Detroit Opera House. I loved that show and I think my mom would like it as well. This just works out so well. This might be one of my more inspired ideas for Christmas.
