Background:
Wallander Wiki. The link does not provide very much information on Magnus so I have provided a brief summary of Magnus' involvement in the series Wallander.
Magnus Martinsson is a part of the Ystad police department in Sweden. A member of the team headed by Kurt Wallander, he tends to be somewhat of a lackey for the group, having the lesser jobs foisted on him and enduring the aggressions of the protagonist. Even so, he is a computer-smart policeman who is very good at his job. When Kurt is off duty, pending a possible resignation, Magnus is the one put in charge of the team, suggesting he is capable of doing so. He grew up in the small town of Ystad, in Sweden. Nothing else is currently known about the character.
Personality: Sarcastic, cynical, and damn good at his job, Magnus Martinsson is a Swedish police officer and takes pride in his job. Often put on by his team leader, Kurt Wallander, Magnus does his job with only a few complaints, usually small complaints about how outlandish many of Wallander's demands are. Even so, he is passionate, intense, and loves his work. He imagines the big time for each case, if he can consider it possible, and yet he also imagines the worst, even when it involves friends. He is a determined man, who is still rather young and green when it comes to the job.
Sometimes speaking before he thinks, he lands himself in trouble with Wallander often, citing a suicide case as less important than a homicide case, suggesting they should have brought a battering ram to break in the door of a co-worker who hasn't shown up for work, and offering to kick in the door instead. He thinks the worst of most situations and simply tries to get on with his job without making a mess of it. Before the end of season 1, Magnus had never killed anyone, and does so towards the end of the season finale in order to save the life of Kurt's daughter, Linda. Doing so with courage and determination, he is still shaken by this event, to the point of having to leave the scene to be sick. He is an emotionally charged character who has been put upon throughout his working life within the Ystad police force, and when finally given cases of his own, he is furious when they are taken from him, through both a wounded pride and the desire to prove himself as worthwhile.
He is, however, a gossip. This is noted when he finds out Wallander has been on a dating site and the information gets around the entire team, as well as when a leak is made and Wallander assumes it is Magnus and his "big mouth". He shows interest in his co-workers, but sometimes simply can't keep things to himself. Despite that, he does care, and he's good enough at his job to know when to leave well enough alone. He shows concern for Kurt after his father's death and he shows utter distress at Svedberg's murder, even despite being so utterly surprised his co-worker, Svedberg, had been sleeping with a transvestite.
Quick to the draw both in the line of duty and verbally, Magnus is always around to offer a snarky, sarcastic comment about things, however they are not always said in a playful way. When the case he had all but wrapped up is opened again by Wallander who has circumstantial evidence, Magnus speaks with venom when he's challenged, though it is simply through a wounded pride and anger over having his work undermined by his superior once again. Doing the grunt work, such as trawling through databases for one single acronym or digging through a victim's possessions for only one envelope, Magnus is underappreciated at work and yet still keeps working hard, often surprised when he is praised. He complains, but he enjoys it, and so he sticks around.
Rarely smiling, if at all, he keeps his private life to himself and yet is willing to be involved in the lives of others, knowing things about his co-workers that the others didn't, simply because he's willing to listen, even if he's not always willing to keep things to himself. He is a good friend, a great cop, and a determined young man. He is also very naive to the things outside of Sweden. Surprised at the idea of transvestites and not used to dealing with foreigners, he tends to speak without thinking about cultural sensitivity, even going as far as saying Sweden is "swamped" with migrant workers, simply because of how the situation is within Sweden. Even so, he doesn't mean harm by such things, he simply speaks his mind.
Fiery is the best word to describe him, and he is both sharp with the things he says and blunt about how he says them. He will cut in with quips, he will argue if he sees something wrong with the situation, and he will do it all with a rather colourful vocabulary of slang words and cussing. Even so, he is a good policeman, and knows his way around a computer. He can find information faster than anyone else on the team, and is often put upon for that, as well as being the one left to answer phone calls and generally deal with everyone else's jobs when they don't want to do them.
Powers, Skills, and Abilities: Magnus is a policeman with all the training that comes with such a job. He is rather adept with technology, though he is bested by a young hacker in the series, and he is trained with firearms and the deductive skills of any well-trained detective.

First Person: video
[Magnus scowls into the phone, raking a hand through his curly blonde hair and trying not to just shout at the screen. The situation is ridiculous and he doesn't quite know if he believes it or if he's simply been abducted into somewhere for some twisted sicko's police-oriented hate crime.]
This is just-- [He sighs heavily and drops his hand.] Aliunde, huh? If anyone can tell me just what this shit is all about, that'd be great, because I have a job I need to be doing.
[He has already looked through what he can, but he's been told contacting everyone will be best and even that makes him feel sick.] I'm looking for Detectives Kurt Wallander and Anne-Britt Hoglund, if anyone's seen them around.
[He looks around himself and sighs heavily, running his hand through his hair again, in tension. When he speaks again, he isn't looking at the phone and seems to be speaking to himself.] God, this is just... this is stupid. How can I just be in another world? I swear, if it isn't Ytsad going to Hell, it's something else...
[Finally, Magnus looks at the screen again.] I just... this is absolutely ridiculous. Whoever's idea this was is a fucking idiot. [He cuts the feed.]
Third Person: This place was strange. Weird things happened and no one seemed put out by it, because it was just normal for this place to have weird things going on. Magnus didn't like it one bit, and that was why he tried to keep to himself for the most part, but it was difficult to do so. He wanted to go home but, when he thought about it, all he'd be going home to was work. Work was great but at least here he wasn't barked at or put down and he didn't get the crappy cases. Well, he didn't get any cases, but he was at least not being ordered around. Besides, he hadn't taken a real amount of time off in a few years. He deserved it. Although, it would have been nicer to go somewhere he wanted to be, not here, in this weird place with the strange events and the really fucking weird people.
As he sat on a bench, sipping his tea from the take out cup he had, Magnus watched people pass back and forth, wondering to himself if he was a missing persons case now. Maybe Kurt had gotten everyone on this one, because after losing Svedberg he doubted Kurt, Anne-Britt, or even Lisa would give up the chance to rescue him, at least. Or maybe they had already given up. It had been weeks, after all, and he wasn't technically going to show evidence of going missing.
Magnus sighed and sipped his tea again, slowly, watching as a woman sat on the bench opposite, looking through her phone. He needed a solid job, he decided. He needed to put down roots, because he wasn't going to be sent home any time soon, and he was fast running out of money. He needed to just admit to himself that this was home, for now, and even if it wasn't Ystad it wasn't Hell and he could manage.
Of course, that meant putting himself out there and Magnus sighed a little more, finishing his tea and tossing the cup in the nearest trash can, shoving his hands in his coat. He wanted to find a job that would let him be a cop, but he wasn't interested in becoming anything silly like a renegade. He wondered just what kind of job he could even get in a place like this.
It wasn't home, there weren't murder cases for him to help solve, and oddly enough he was missing that most of all. Of course he missed Kurt, Anne-Britt, and Lisa, but there was no one else back home for him and all he had, at the end of the long work days, was a job well done.
Maybe Aliunde would find something for him to do now, maybe he could find a life outside of his job because, god dammit, he wasn't going to let his job eat him like Kurt did. He wanted to get married one day, settle down, have a life, and perhaps he could find that in this world. He just had to take the first step. That meant finding work. Great.
