[Happy day! Sveta is actually smiling a bit as she shows off a pair of jeans with a rough looking patch on the side.]I feel very accomplished today because I sewed this all by myself. I don’t think that I will wear them, though. They make me feel horribly fat and there are, as Arthur said, so many very pretty people here. Well, there are also a lot ( Read more... )

I agree with Mr. Dracula, as I'm sure everyone does: there's nothing wrong with your figure.

I also recommend the drink. I wouldn't normally, but Miss Parker insisted after Mr. Spinola disappeared, and it really did help.

Parker always has good ideas. I like Parker very much, so I'm glad that you were able to be talked into it.

I do drink. But I like to drink when I'm happy, too. I've just been drinking to make me feel better lately and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

She is a very clever lady.

It can be unhealthy for you, which is why I was reticent.

I'm a doctor, Constable. I know exactly what it can do. But I just don't think that it matters here as much as it would at home, where I am a little more careful about it.

Yes, of course miss. Doctor. Sorry.

You don't have to apologize. I am grateful that you would mention those things. Because sometimes people do forget.

I don't think they forget so much as they underestimate. Nobody thinks they're going to be the one who has the trouble with drink, or other substances, or gambling, or eating, or any number of things. It's all something which happens to other people until it has snuck up on you.

I agree with that. Though I seem to see that a lot more at home than I do here. Maybe because access to things like that isn't as easy here.

It doesn't seem that difficult here. Certainly not food or drink. I suppose you'd have to find somebody to gamble with... And even inmates have gotten substances.

I said that it wasn't easy, not that it was impossible.

That is true: you did. But I meant that it might actually be easier here, because nobody uses money.

That is also true. But money doesn't really have to be exchanged in order for things to have a price. It just might not be a price in money.

It's sort of equalizing when the price isn't in dollars...
