I'm watching the news, and it appears it was centered in Mineral, near Richmond, Virginia and was felt from North Carolina to Connecticut! It was 5.8 magnitude at about 3.5 miles deep. I'm picking up stuff that fell down. It was at least 30 seconds of shaking here that kept building, then a serious shifting and bouncing. It faded away afterward. Scary!

Indeed! Preliminary estimated magnitude of 5.8, certainly nothing to sneeze at!

Well, apparently someone dropped it in Colorado yesterday on its way to you! :-)

Since revised to 5.9 and at a depth of only 1 km!

I won't call you an amateur, since I don't recall you ever making snarky comments about quakes out here. I just can't stand people who live in places that get tornadoes or hurricanes giving grief to Californians because we get quakes.

I'm glad you didn't have any physical damage; have a cup of tea (or whatever works for you) and relax. ;)

Having lived in SF, LA, & OC counties as well as Tornado Alley, I give grief about neither.

One thing I never do is snark on folks who have endured major disasters. Cali has had their fair share of nasty earthquakes, and they tend to all be notable, at least. What I will snark on is people who have something minor and think it's the end of the world. MD is full of people who can't handle an inch of snowfall. People panic, buy out the stores supplies of milk, bread and toilet paper, and make the roads into parking lots. Needless to say, the last couple winters here with several feet of snowfall separated the men from the infants. It was actually easier to get around in the bad stuff because all the fearful amateurs finally stayed home where they could not cause problems ( ... )

Fracking is being blamed for recent small quakes in the DFW area.

Small earthquakes are linked to the weight of the Burj Dubai exerting "pinpoint" pressure on the earth's crust. There is already a huge engineering challenge to design buildings to withstand earthquakes. But what if they cause them? lol

I usually don't pay attention to anything less than 6 ;) But yeah, that's pretty decent size for you folks. Glad all seems to be a-ok for ya.
