Geekery upgrade 2: electric boogaloo

Jan 20, 2008 21:59

Hot on the heels of the latest computer upgrade, I finally decided to get a new scanner. Unlike the crappy things built into the cheap all-in-one printers here, this one (an HP G4050) can scan slides, 35mm and large format negatives. The reason for this is I have tons of slides and negatives, most taken by my father before and shortly after I was born. I want to get these pictures in a usable form as well as print some of them, as well as just rediscovering them.

There are literally thousands of pictures around here, many from well before I was born. Sadly, I wont know the story behind so many of them. A couple weeks before my Mom died, we were going through a few of the many pictures and letters from so long ago. I wrote note on the backs of the pictures that we did look through, but unfortunately, Mom's energy was not up to the task for long, and, to be honest, it was too late for such things. Still, I'd like to go through all the photos, and where I can, extrapolate the names of people and places and honor Mom's memories as good as I can.

Dominic, aka 42601, musclebound sweetheart that he is, sent me a nice big photo album, mounts and other goodies soon after Mom died, and I will soon be filling it up with so many of the photos.

While at Staples doing my shopping, I also picked (yet another) document shredder. The last one, a supposed heavy duty model that replaced the cheapie thing before it, stripped it's gears when I used it last in a noisy, grinding concerto of fail. This one better last.

This was the scene a few minutes ago on the couch here in the studio. We had been watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition (this ep happened to take place here in MD). Jeff and Kodi had other ideas, seeing that they both had to work. Well, Jeff worked his first weekend at his new job, and Kodi, well, he works so hard at being KrazyDogInsanityPooch.

Here's hoping everyone has a good week.
