It's beginning to look a lot like happy holidays

No "blargh" this time. I promised. Too much good stuff happened over the weekend that even a (necessary evil) trip to The Evil Empire (Wal-Mart) could not place a damper upon it. While I am not about to shed my Ebenezer Scrooge title anytime soon, events and actions that would normally occur take on a definite seasonal charm this time of year.

Big news first. Our little family has increased by one...

Jeff has been wanting a dog since moving back to PA and having to spend weekdays mostly by himself. Long story short, this became an opportunity to give one of the most meaningful gifts I could think of.

Me, Jeff and "Bear"

Meet "Bear", an 11-week old, 4 pound male Pomeranian. Bear is an excessively cute little bundle of energy that makes everyone stop and "aaawwwwww". Jeff picked him up earlier in the week and has been a prisoner of his charms (as well as on an ever present lookout for housebreaking faux pas) ever since. There is something about a tiny, hedgehog-like little ball of fur that becomes a total people magnet. A guy magnet too, as it brought a shirtless bodybuilder out of his apartment and into the cold wintery weather. A guaranteed man attractor for Hillside and P-Town next year, undoubtedly.

Bear, attacking

This little fuzzball is exceedingly difficult to photograph. He's constantly in motion, and upon seeing a camera, he's bouncing between "Ooooh, shiny" and ham-it-up modes.

Later that Saturday, Jeff and I met up with our buddies Rich and Tim (or as I call them, "Big and Rich") for a Hershey Bears (sensing a pattern yet?) hockey game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Bears shut out the 'Dogs 4-0 (take off, eh!).

An ice hockey game means only one thing. Zambonis!

People only go to these things to see a Zamboni crash

Okay, there was some good hockey being played too, with nachos being eaten, cowbells rang and rooting for (screaming at) the team.

Puckin' off

After the game, Rich & Tim came over to the apartment to be formally introduced to our new baby. Bear approved our choice of buddies. The guys were instantly won over.

Today was spent being domestic, going shopping and having a dog-gone great time playing with Bear. Jeff is going to bring the dog to work tomorrow for the afternoon, undoubtedly causing a shutdown of the entire department as everyone stands around in "aaaawwwwwwwww". Good thing he's the manager. Neighborhood kids want to walk Bear, previously kept-to-themselves neighbors offered to babysit him if needed, and so many people know him by name. This is unmistakeable as being 'good cheer'.

Happy, fuzzy, warm holidays!
