my explanation:
NL east, for a long time I thought it'd be Philly but there offense is over matched by the mets who's pitching is bad but I think passable. I think they can get it to bullenpen fine especially if Perez has come back around. Atlanta could contend if their SPs take a big step from last year especially with a much improved bullpen. Watch that lineup womp.
NL central, if the offense stays true and we see some of the young bats come alive this will be the team to beat. Their rotation is by far the best in the division, maybe the league, it's up there with the padres and Arizona at least. The cubbies have a domaint offense but that's about all, their pitchers outside of zambrano? they really don't exist, (except maybe wade but he's coming off of an injury, oh and hill could be good I heard) the bullpen really doesn't impress either unles I'm forgeting someone. Cards? Maybe. the rotation is just so scary and the lineup has some holes and definant injury concerns. i like the pirates over cinninati especially with that average rotation and decent middle of the order, (I want to see Paulino mash).
NL west
Arizona has this one if they want it. With that offense it's gonna be hard to not like their youth movement. Add to that brandon webb, two big inning eaters and randy johnson. The bullpen though need to come through in a big way. Dodgers have a decent team with the offense and the pitching but the management has become so ridiculous retarded it's amazing. Padres have a throughly great pitching staff, bullpen included, and their offense in combination with this could be enough to really own the division. I really like the new colrado team, Iannetta, tulowitzki, aktins, helton, holliday, hawpe, taveras, matsui? and the pitching could be okay, alright. hte bullpen has some nice arms too but, I don't know it would be amazing to see this team put it together.
AL East
I really doubt the strength of the NYY. LEt's go through it...
OFFENSE:
NYY
Okay posada and giambi and a-rod and jeter all get a year older but I don't think it matters at all yet. I am afraid of CANO. Damon is fine, Abreu is great and matsui is pretty good.
Boston
Lowell, Lugo, Pedoria, youkillis and varitek don't match up for production. But Ortiz is better than giambi, vartitek will probably be as good as his counterpart, manny is the best righ handed hitter in the American league and j.d. drew really helps a lot in that five spot. I think some important things for this offense are pedoria and crisp coming through like I think they can. with that the OBP will be there to match NYY and with that kind of middle great things will happen.
TORONTO
in the west they would win the division.
Look at RIOS, THOMAS, WELLS, OVERBAY, and glaus. Zaun buts up the walks and I really believe in reed johnson. CLayton is a killer though. plus if Lind comes up anytime soon they've got a couple guys who can hit.
Orioles
the offense is not as good but they've got a really decent one too. Roberts, mora, huff, tejada, Markakis, hernandez are all a bats to fight with. the rest of the team is okay
tampa-okay, baldelli, young, cawford, upton, dukes, cantu, gomes, the japanese player, wiggington, and the rest.
Now here's my arguement, boston's SP is the best in this division, (i don't think toronto is that far behind, the YANKEES? pavano? mussina? wang is not bad but injured, Kei Igawa?, adn who? I fear names like humberto sanchez and phillip hughes but we don't know when they're coming). So with all of the offenses that this division has (and the very offensive nature of the central) I think that boston will prevail over NYY because they'll be able to really keep runs off the board and their offense is really good enough to mash around the opponents. See my logic?
AL Central
we've got the indians incredible offense their revamped bullpen and C.C. sabathia what more could you need? (the rest of their decent rotation. the white sox now, at least in my opinion, only have a great 3-4-5 punch but this can't get you too the playoffs alone. left field and centerfield are hurting, along with SS though 2nd base and 3rd base are strong. the catching is poor, (offensively) and I really have little faith in their pitching staff, burlee? Vasquez? contreas? Garlnad? I think the detroits could pull out for the division too though. With that offense, (they really should play thames though, he was somewhat secretly their best hitter) I mean the lineup is pretty solid and scary. I really have no faith in the twins rotation, outside fo santanna of course though the offense there is good. I am preemptively, and half retardedly picking the twins to win the WS in 2008. the royals might be a little better than people think. The rotation might be half decent, *note the word half, their offense has the likes of gordon, shealy, sweeny, teahan, dejesus and REGGIE SANDERS.
AL west
OKAY.
Texas- the outfield is weak, Michael young and hank blalock are overrated though teixeira is stellar and kinsler was impressive that season. i'd really love to see botts beat out catalanato for that DH spto eventually too.
OAKland-haren and swisher are studs. chavez really has teh ability to knock the ball if he's healthy, harden can really knock the bats down when he's healthy but those are big ifs on top of all the rest of ifs. bobby crosby, mark ellis, bradley, dan johnson, stewart, loaiza, street and kenndey all have a history of injuries. I think they have the potential to win the division but some stuff ahs to happen.
LA OF ANA- SHEA HILLENBRAND. on a scarier note, VLAD. the rest of the offense has had bad years and good years, (see Garrett Anderson, Figgins, Caberra, Riveria). They'll be counting big on rookies this season, or just young talent I suppose. The could be pretty great though I really don't think their offense is improved, (unless guys like kendrick come through). the rotation could be AWESOME or it could be pretty good. LAckey, Sanatana. COlon, weaver, escobar. they have someone else too though. the bullpen is awesome. probably the best team.
SEATTTLE MARINERS> Dayn perry calls us a dark horse canidate to win the division. Nate sliver predicted 73 wins. ARHGHGHHS. Looks like another heart gripping season. (2006 was great untill the eleven game streak) One thing that really got us last season too was our record versus our divison, somethign in for a change I think, especially against OAKLAND. Look at this lineup:
ICHIRO
BELTRE
VIDRO
IBANEZ
SEXSON
GUILLEN
JOHIJMA
BETANCOURT
LOPEZ
here's what I think needs to happen in order for us to reach teh playoffs.
1. felix pitching like the king he is
2. beltre hits like the second half of '06
3. Ibanez does 3/4's of what he did last year
4. Vidro gives at least a .350 OBP and .450 SLUG
5. Sexson at least repeats last season
6. gullien or broussard hit like they did before they came to the mariners, (not unprobable-i could fall in love with guillen)
7. johijma repeats or better
8. the 2-5 guys are at least average in the rotation
9. betancourt just does what he does
10. lopez doesn't need to do a whole lot to get this team to the playoffs but if he would hit like he did in the first half of '06 it would help astromonically.
11. the bullpen before putz keeps it together.
what worries me the most? 11.
1. is due to happen
2. Why not, he was something then
3. who knows?
4. i still hate this deal and have a black spot in my heart
5. I think he'll be better, 2nd half he was smokin'
6. guillen has been quite the hitter in the past and I love this gamble but it could not work out easily too, broussard had a killer spring and did great before he came to us last year adn I don't think that was the reason he went down, or if it was he could really come around as a lefty, I'd like to see him get some at bats, maybe instead of VIDRO?
7. johijma shows no signs of doing anything else and could even improve as he gains more and mroe major league experience
8. jeff weaver can eat innings when he's not giving up HRs and as a fly baller with our outfield and ichiro good things should come, H-ram is a mystery to me, Miguel Batista, I'm not crazy about him but he's never been anything but consistent and a ground baller, with the best left side in baseball what's the worst that could happen?
9. BETANCOURT!
10. I love lopez, I've followed him for a long time now and I'd love to see that power and that great stroke put the murder on the ball like I saw him do but then again he might do nothing, anything from him I think is a plus
11. I am really worried here, trading soriano was a bad move in my opinion, I despise Mateo, not having Lowe hurts and restima is a scarier option, who knows about arms like O'flarety and hubber and sherrill didn;t look good in spring. most importantly there's morrow, I really don't like the idea of not having him at AAA SPing but he could really help, god save us from ruining something great. PUTZ
they could do it.
