Title:
"Sentry Duty" Author:
morganstuartFandom: BBC!Sherlock
Rating: PG -13
Warnings: Descriptions of a PTSD-related experience.
Characters: Lestrade, John, Sherlock, Mycroft, and Sofie, offstage Moriarty
Pairings: none
Length: ~8200 words
Summary: Standing by Sherlock and John may cost Lestrade what he holds most dear. Who will stand by Lestrade?
Author's Note: This is the third story in
the Sofie Series, which begins with
"Mouth of Babes" and continues in
"Facing Forward." For those who haven't read these stories, here's the nutshell version: Sherlock and John were badly injured in the explosion following "The Great Game." Lestrade is a widower and has a young daughter, Sofie, who lives with her maternal grandmother but sees him regularly. Moriarty is still lurking in the shadows, dogging the steps of everyone near to Sherlock, including Lestrade.

Acknowledgements: Tremendous thanks to those who expressed interest in another instalment of the Sofie Series, as well as the generous and patient community members at
sh_britglish. John's experience in this story is inspired by a true incident in the life of a British officer returned from active combat, as recounted to me (and others) in 2009. This was written for the "Summer of Sherlock" festival at
sherlockmas.
