A cigarette, a bottle of whiskey, an old tumbler nicked from a bar in Topeka: these were a few of Dean's favourite things. The Impala, a nice view, a classic radio station tuned just right, and Dean would hide for hours, getting up early to enjoy the sunrise and the mist rising off the old, dead grass. A quick nap, a burger from a dive, and Dean was ready to face anything, except perhaps his brother.
A book, a bed, a hot shower: these were a few of Sam's favourite things. An expensive cup of coffee, free wifi and no current events, and Sam would breathe, another free day. He slept in late, barely rolling over when Dean got out of bed to enjoy his morning salutations.
The days were never full days, because the night would bring a text message, a buzz from their police scanners, or a late edition newspaper, and they'd be off. But for a few hours, Sam-and-Dean were just Sam, and just Dean. And at that point, life was almost bearable.
