“The third hour of drowsy morning”
This darkness presses ever in
(I hold my post and guard my mind).
How I wish to God I’d been
a little less to it inclined.
Now my penance is to fight,
and mock, and frighten into sense
The Boy Who Lived. I might
succeed, though he is proud-and dense.
Still I watch (my dungeon light
burning down a tedious minute).
Impatient for a peaceful night
without a touch of Harry in it.
