A couple months ago Coyla and I purchased our VIP passes for the Shiny Toy Guns concert on April 18, 2013.
The day FINALLY arrived.
10 minutes before we started our drive from Birmingham to Nashville I received my orders from Satellites to find a FedEx and print out cards to hand-out after the show. We ended up running into traffic problems and got lost a couple of times... It was 4:45 when we arrived at the FedEx place and there was a line :(, so we decided to forgo helping out the fan club this time because we were supposed to be at the venue by 5pm for our Meet-n-Greet.
Bummer.
Finding the venue (Marathon Music Works) was a cinch and we got there at 5:01. There were two other people standing outside the venue waiting to be let in. We could hear the band beginning to sound-check and we were getting antsy! We finally got in around 5:30. The director handed us a picture to get autographed and said we could roam around, watch the sound-check, etc.
We were all a little apprehensive and stood a ways back from the stage but as the minutes went by we inched closer and closer. We started making little comments to each other about this and that. Then the sound check ended and we squished together to discuss our nervousness/excitement about meeting the band, and then THEY WERE WALKING TOWARDS US!!! AHHH!!
I was most nervous to meet Jeremy, most excited to meet Chad, and eager to meet Mikey and Carah. They were ALL ridiculously nice and down-to-earth. I felt instantly comfortable with them. I did NOT say all the things I wanted to say, but I did tell Carah that I have been waiting years to hear her sing Frozen Oceans and she sang part of it during the sound check!!! WOOT! But I wanted to talk to Chad more, but did not have the chance (this time ;)).
Chad had on the best shirt ever. (Bill Murray)
Carah asked me about my necklace, they all commented on how awesome Coyla's name is, they allowed us to take pictures with them.
And just like that, it was over and they left to have dinner before the show. We crowded back together with the other 2 VIPs and gushed. It was only 6pm at this point and the doors weren't going to open until 7pm. We decided to meet back up at "doors" (we would be let in FIRST since we were VIPs) and secure the front together.
Coyla and I put our stuff from the meet and greet into the car and decided to just sit on the sidewalk outside the venue. I think the other guys went to grab something to eat.
At 7pm the doors opened and we grabbed a spot on Chad's side of the stage against the front-railing. We were BEYOND excited.
The first band was Midi Matilda. The drummer was terrifying with his excitement, teeth, and mad-dancing skills. I couldn't take my eyes away but yet I was scared to make eye-contact. haha! I didn't take one pic or video because I was so enthralled! I regret that. What a great show.
The second band was Oh No Fiasco. This band was pretty good. The lead singer could totally belt it - it was awesome. Their band was all over the place all the time like a circus. Highly entertaining.
The opening bands were so fun that the time flew by!
Shiny's led off with Carrie - WOOT! They did most of their higher impact songs and so by the end I was exhausted. My favorite performance of the night was Fading Listening...or maybe Carrie? Idk! (It's hard for me to pick a favorite) I was disappointed they did not do Mercy.
Carah gave our new friend Brian (one of the VIPs) a real show; she came right up to him during one of the songs and sang right in front of his face. He was pretty much a puddle at that point. haha. During Rocketship she ran around spitting water at her bandmates and the crowd, too. A riot.
As always, Shiny's put on a great show. Always tight, talented, and fun.
We left right after Shiny's performance. I meant to buy a t-shirt but was so involved in raving about the concert with my old and new friends that we walked right out the door and it was too late. Oh well, always next time.
This was my 7th Shiny concert...and I can't wait for my next one. Love this band dearly and support them whenever I possibly can. They are awesome for allowing fans to purchase a VIP ticket - the chance to connect with the other VIP Fans was great and made the experience even more fun/memorable.
