THIS JUST IN: THE COLD WAR IS NOT OVER.

AS LONG AS THERE ARE NUCLEAR BOMBS IN THE WORLD, THE COLD WAR WILL NEVER BE OVER. NEVERMIND THAT THE ONLY COUNTRY TO EVER ACTUALLY USE THEM IN A WAR IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.RUSSIA IS NOT OUR ALLY. APPEASING RUSSIA IS LIKE APPEASING ADOLF HITLER OF THE 1930S. NEVERMIND THAT THE SITUATIONS WERE ( Read more... )

BECAUSE...I DON'T KNOW. I guess because they lack hands and aren't especially flexible so you can't really bend them around people. Also they tend to be rather huge. So hugging someone with one would be like whacking them with a large baseball bat. Made of metal and explosions.

And nuclear fallout. Can't forget that part! It's what makes a nuclear bomb so special, and the thought of actually using one so terrifying because if you use it on someone, especially the US, you know you're good and proper screwed.

It's a good story to cry over, because nuclear fallout is so much DNW. Epic levels of it. And I think most countries really realize that. In fact, I can't imagine how it feels being a country on the US's bad-list, looking at our stockpile of nuclear weapons.

It's called There Will Come Soft Rains and it was about uh... ...well it was some city in California and it was post-Nuclear bomb and it was this smart house that was the last house standing in the city and how everyday it still made breakfast and rang the alarms for people to get up and turned on the baths and everything but everyone was dead so there was no one there and it was really sad.

Also that was all one sentence.

And yeah I agree. Also global consequences. I mean, really, it's not like it'd be a country fires a bomb at someone right now and the world would go, "Oh well that is happening over there." It'd be all over the place.

I have actually read that story! It was definitely a Cold War Era story.

But my point stands-- the Cold War is over. For all the time Bush spent working with Russia, I would certainly hope Russia is, in fact, our allies.

And yeah. That whole. "Globalization" thing that has been shoved down my throat from the moment I came to college.

Mhm! Magazine era sci-fi is my favourite. The Cold War definitely made some interesting stories.

Except according to my high school textbooks. But they were old. And we mocked them for being all COLD WAR!!!! And yeah, I really doubt either of us are going to be hurling bombs at each other any time soon.

It does manage to come up in every class.
