A HOW TO GUIDE FOR POSTING ON LJ
by grayx3eyedsoul

A lot of people have messaged/commented and asked me to post or edit their posts for them, because they don't know what to do. I thought up this guide so instead of just not knowing how to do it, the actually can learn. I hope this is as in-depth as I want it to be, and don't be afraid to ask questions (: This is still a work in progress, I am adding to it

+embedding, +hyper-linking, +adding pictures/preview pictures, +changing font/text/size/color, +

NOTE: This tutorial does use RICH TEXT EDITOR, not HTML. there are other html guides out there
& feel free to ask a question about html in the comments.
ie/ make sure this tab is clicked.

add a subject.
adding a subject lets people click on the post for certain layouts, and gives a general overview of what the post is about.

HOW TO ADD A SUBJECT:

Click to view at full size

So, adding a subject does a couple of things.
1) It gives a general overview of what the post is about..
2) On some layouts, you're not able to take the post into full mode unless it has a title/subject.
By adding one, you make things easier for yourself & others.

EMBEDDING : So, let's say you want to post a video - here's how to add it directly in your post.

For the purposes of this tutorial, we're going to be embedding the Gap 2009 Christmas Commercial.

After unchecking the "include related videos" and copying the embed box, come back over to livejournal.

Click the button circled above and this should pop up:

click for full size view

And copy and paste the code we had copied from YouTube in. It should look like:

Click to view at full size

Hit "Insert" and a video place holder should come into the area :

You can add your text in above or under the video, and this is the finished product :

TA-DA :D
you can embed your videos now :)

HYPER-LINKING;
hyper-linking is actually pretty easy, and once you get it you'll be hyper-linking all over the place :)

Okay, so basically, all you need to is have your link - in this case, we're going to be using www.mylifeisaverage.com

To hyper-link something, write out your whole text. In this case -

" I really want people to know more about this site - it's really funny!"

If I want the word 'site' to be hyper linked, all I need to do is highlight 'site' -

Click to view at full size

and click the insert/edit link button in the toolbar -

Click to view at full size

and click okay.

TAH DAH - you've got :

I really want people to know more about this site - it's really funny!

ADDING PICTURES TO YOUR POST;
when doing a post with multiple pictures, or icons, you want to add preview pictures
& trust me, it is way easier than it looks (:

So,I'm posting pictures from the Percy Jackson Premier in New York, and there are like 20 pictures.
To add the preview pictures, set up your post - add a subject, text, links, ect & then open up the pictures.

IF YOU HAVE A DIRECT LINK TO THE IMAGE : open up the direct link in a new window/tab & your post entry window. simply drag over your picture onto your post and resize to fit. (:

IF IT A IMAGE ON YOUR COMPUTER, ECT :

Take a minute and upload it to Photobucket, or TinyPic. After the image uploads, open up the direct link they give you in the browser.

PHOTOBUCKET :

                                                                                               Click for full size.

Paste the direct link into your browser and follow the drag-and-edit method as shown above. (:
