1)
finding a comfortable life = growing up.
growing up = something I swear I'll never do.
therefore: gracie = only happy if she's uncomfortable.
therefore: gracie = actor with complete chaos and instability for the rest of time.
2)
the present culture of american youth (hereafter denoted "Generation WHY") = not as pissed off about the war as they should be. (where are the people sitting on the lawn of the white house getting stoned of their asses? THAT was a movement. Mostly now we're just liberal because it's trendy to be so.)
possible reason a) the hippies grew up and became lawyers and yoga instructors, and bore Generation WHY, therefore the stuff our parents did is un-cool, except for, apparently, the weed.
possible reason b) the war is not documented as well as Nam was. My mom saw kids getting exploded on the television every night, so no wonder they all wanted to sing songs about it. What do we see? nothing. What do we feel? Apathy, apparently. (can anybody point to Iraq on a world map? honestly?)
3)
Generation WHY is focused on growing up too fast.
support evidence a) stores that sell shit like Care Bears and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to people who did NOT grow up on these t.v. shows, they only pretend to have grown up on them because they think that's the cool thing to do, maybe because it makes them seem older, or it makes them an official on something that nobody else knows about. (sorry, if you're my age or younger, we have only seen RERUNS of Thundercats. It ended in 1990. Fact. I was two. I was watching Raffi. Where are my Raffi t-shirts??)
support evidence b) the massive amount of business majors at school. What the fuck? College, especially the one I'm at, is easier than high school, so why do we go? To get a degree to get a job to please our parents... not because we want to, but because that's the only way we've been told how to live. BUT, we're confused and have no motivation or any idea about what the hell to do, so we say, fuck it, I'll be a business major to keep my parents off my back and figure it out later. No motivation or passion in life = business major. Sorry. They're nice, and some of them are brilliant, but the majority of them I've met are dense as fucking pencil erasors. These kids I go to school with can't even dress themselves without looking at the person next to them and just emulating that. (I shit you not I saw a flock of 6 or 8 of them all wearing the same thing the other day. SAME THING.)
support evidence c) WHERE'S THE ART? WHERE'S THE PASSION? WHERE'S THE MOTIVATION? I CAN'T FIND ANY! Even if it's passion towards getting stoned and protesting the war, or shooting up and playing rock and roll, or just posting some fucking POETRY on the walls. Nowhere. I saw more of this kind of shit in high school when we had those rigid, hellish walls to kick down. Now because the pressure of the Establishment isn't so immediate, we've just all decided we're too comfortable to move? WHAT THE FUCK.
4)
Generation WHY has no art movement BECAUSE
theory a) we're all apathetic bastards focused on growing up, and therefore don't have time to do stupid shit like a new movement of music or art.
theory b) all the new movements are inside the superhighways of the internet, something that I have failed to tap into, therefore I just can't see it. Totally possible. Ipods, cell phones, computer games, so many people now are hooked into their machinery it kind of scares me... maybe I'm missing out. (I am about to sell out and get a fucking ipod, unfortunately... my mp3 walkman with the fuzzy mushroom stickers, the coolest thing ever, has been skipping on me a lot recently.)
5)
the only way to be as cool as any member of the Reed family is if we found a way to liquify jimi hendrix and inject it into our veins... and even then we'd be lacking.
Thoughts?!?!?!?!
