Seems it was an AVG thing after all. Checked on Facebook and discovered a problem with the search mode on AVG. Not only was it slowing down Facebook but apparently it was also booting me off LiveJournal.
Have disabled the AVG feature and now everything's back to normal. Please carry on with your normal browsing.
