In Act One, I took off an afternoon from work to go pay a surprise visit to
neodymium155 out at the lab. Yes, I know Lawrence Livermore National Labs isn't exactly structured for surprise social visits. But what was worse was that I got out of work and suddenly realized my motorcycle was in the shop (which is true) so I couldn't get out there without having him pick me up at BART.
In Act Two, it was Christmas morning or some similar time for exchanging gifts. For some reason, coworkers were there, too, and
buzzlghtyr had just given our boss, Brent, a small gun that mounts on the ring finger, but Brent was saying he couldn't use it because that was the same hand he uses for firing the bazooka that's part of his Borg costume. I was having my own problems - I couldn't find the binoculars I had bought my dad ("No, not that pair, those are junky little freebies that came with the telescope I got him.") and was about to head out to the car to look for them. The worst part of this is that this is right when I woke up, so for several minutes after waking I had the strongest urge to go to the car and look for a pair of giftwrapped binoculars.
