So, before I get started on this entry proper, I want to apologize and explain to anyone who I defriended recently, and may have been surprised or even offended by the move. Rest assured, I meant to make this post days ago, but real life and the whole thing with me stepping away from RI happened and I just forgot (Yes, despite the timing, most of the defriendings are independent of my lack of desire to be at RI).
Really, what it came down to was there were just so many journals I just plain don’t read for one reason or another, and they were cluttering up my friends list and page. I’m not exactly one to use friends filters either because they seem rather pointless to me, so I took the other available step. I’m sorry if anyone was hurt or offended by this, and feel free to let me know in the comments.
As far as real life goes, it’s been a crapshoot lately. On top of just generally not feeling well the last few days, two big things are impacting my life right now (on top of my constant inability to find a job that doesn’t involve flipping burgers and my mother’s… everything) have taken up large swaths of my life lately. The first is… well, you know the cliché of the drunk uncle? One of my uncles is a living embodiment of this trope. He doesn’t work, he drinks 12 packs in a day in a half, he’s an idiot because of it, he smells, ect. I make no exaggerations when I say that I loathe this man, with all of my being. I can’t even stand being in his presence. Well, he had been living in a house my mom owned, free of charge (not because my mom didn’t demand he pay rent he just… never did, and she did nothing about it because “he’s family”. Why can’t I get that same “courtesy”?). She finally got that house rented out, leaving him with no place to live… so she brings him to our house, gives him my room, and relegates me to sleeping on the sofa in the den (which I did a lot already when it was hot, but at east that was by choice)
That was about week and a half ago. I spent the immediate week following his arrival at my house at my sister’s. This was kind of nice at first, but devolved into fighting when she tried to convince me to just move in, but I made it clear I refuse to without a job to help pay utilities and food bills. So, the past few days I’ve been sleeping back at home (though not actually spending much time there, see next paragraph), and it’s been, uh… really shitty. At the very least it’s doubled my resolve to find a job and get the hell out.
The other big thing has been the fact that, at pretty much the same time my mom decided my uncle should move in, my dad went into the hospital because he thought he had a kidney stone. He did, a 9mm one (which is fucking huge as far as kidney stones goes), but it was discovered that he had a much more serious problem - he was in the middle of kidney failure. A week of observation and tests at the hospital ensued (and during none of this time did they remove the kidney stone. Apparently they’re going to do an operation on August 1st to do that), and it meant I spent a lot of mornings and afternoons there with him. Not that I minded, of course. It was just very, very stressful. He was released on Sunday, though, with appointments made for followups, prescriptions given for medicine, and orders given about a new diet. It looks like things will turn out well, but we’ll have to wait and see. Here’s hoping though.
Anyway, on to something a bit happier - my dad’s release was at a god time indeed, for last night we had tickets to see the WWE downtown. They were filming ECW, SmackDown, and even a match for Superstars, and it was a lot of fun. We didn’t have amazing seats, but they were still pretty decent, and they only cost us $16 each, so it was cool. Got to see some fun matches, particularly some surprisingly fun ECW matches (Both Yoshi Tatsu v William Regal and Tyler Reks v Paul Burchill were pretty fun). The Superstars match was Kane v John Morrison (who, sadly, does not actually move in slow motion in real life), and it was pretty fun.
Naturally, the real fun as SmackDown. Lots of cheering for Jeff Hardy, bunches of cheap pops as Hardy and R-Truth continually mentioned Richmond by name, los of booing for Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk. Got to see all the usuals - Hardy, Jericho, Rey Mysterio, and my favourite wrestler in the WWE, CM Punk. All in all, it was good times and a ton of fun. I look forward to doing it again.
Beyond that, I've been playing the Legacy of Kain games again, starting with Blood Omen 1 and making my way all the way to Defiance, game by game. Well, there's been some jumping around (I've played more Soul Reaver 2, my favourite game in the series, than I have any of the other 4), but regardless. Maybe if I ever do another tournament, I'll sponsor Raziel. I've also been playing a lot of Civilization 4, and have dragged a few others down that dark precipice into the realm of "Wow, where did the last four hours go?" with me. Game still amazes me with how addictive it is.
In music news, I recentl discovered Sarah Slean, a canadian pop-ish singer that I doubt most of my friends would like. At times she remids me of a more upbeat, poppy sounding Tori Amos. If that sounds like it might appeal to you, grab some of her abums. The Barness in aprticular is great, and it has my two favourite songs by her (So Many Miles and Sound of Water/CHange Your Mind). I also find myself listening t a lot mroe House and Trace lately, but that probably comes from the fact that I'm designing a character for something that's a Techno/darkwave DJ. Which also reminds me, apparently The Birthday Massacre put out a live album recently called Show and Tell that's absolutely fantastic. Anyone who likes them should get it nao.
I was originally going to go into the whole “elephant in room” that is me stepping away form RI at the end of this post, but seeing as I feel rather dizzy, I’ll leave that for another time. Anyone who wants to talk on the matter of RI, LJ defriendings, or anything else, feel free to throw a comment up, and don’t hold back if you have something to say.
EDIT: Oh, and of specific address to
onyxstraten, I don't know if/when you plan on continuing The Secret Order, but if you'll still have me I'm still interested in being involved in that game. Just drop me a line, and I'll be there.
