Minus the Bear

So the Minus the Bear show was last night and Philly, and I went with
zena73.  The opening band (believe they were called Portugal. The Man or something like that) was OK, but really boring.  Minus the Bear was really good.  Not great, but really good.  The main beef I have with them is that a lot of their older music has a sort of sameness about it.  All the songs off Planet of Ice are kickass however, and went over very well live.

With the exception of about a dozen people, we were by far the oldest people in the place.  I would guesstimate the average age there to be around 22 years (made the crowd at the Cold War Kids show look geriatric by comparison).  Not as many douchebag hats as I expected, as the current clothing trend seems to be the sweatshirt hood pulled up at all times.

Anyway, here's a tip for those traveling in Philly and using a GPS device - do not tell it to take you home by the shortest route.  You may just end up taking a tour of El Barrio, as we did.  Good times.  The upside was that thanks to the GPS we found a parking lot about 2 blocks from the venue, which is much nicer than hoofing it back a mile or so to a garage after a concert.

In unrelated news, we are stepping up our efforts to get out of Flemington.  We did some house hunting a few weeks ago, and we're having our first meeting with a local agent tonight to size up the local market and eventually figure out what we need to do to give us the best chance of selling our place.

concerts, philly
