I skipped it this year, because I couldn't think of anyone I wanted to write about more than Denise Paolucci, who I wrote about last year. Her writing about technical issues is always so clear and compelling.

I guess I ought to write about a PL researcher -- Stephanie Weirich or Kathleen Fisher, say -- but there aren't very many women PL researchers with whom I feel a personal connection. (I wish I did actually know Stephanie or Kathleen.) I also don't feel much of a personal connection with any of the women faculty members at my school -- more's the pity. I could write about my former advisor, but it seems a little disingenuous since, after all, I chose to not follow her to her new university, and I don't know if she likes getting attention of that nature. I could write about someone in some other area of science, but I don't feel like those people are My People, either, and I sort of hate the pop-cultural trend toward a monolithic, undifferentiated notion of "science".

Whine, complain, etc.
