The name Sylar originated from the German Sëyler, literally meaning "ropemaker". Some variation of the name has existed as a surname in Germany for hundreds of years, dating back to as early as the 13th century. The Alsatian line began the spelling as it is today, emigrating to Roane and Hamilton counties in Tennessee.. It doesn't matter.
The Sylar Watch Company was founded in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1893. Their first watches were pocket watches, renowned for their accuracy. The "Broadway Unlimited", they called the series. The unrivaled reliability, precision of the watches put a stop to an epidemic of serious accidents in the railroad industry, became a name. In World War II, they stopped selling watches entirely to make them for the military. One million watches.
"Project M" took three long years, resulting in the McCloud. The first watch powered entirely by electricity, batteries. In 1980, at 12:01 Eastern Time, they successfully began using the first digital watch. They established themselves as one of the leading watchmakers in the world, known for elegance, accuracy, reliability. Strength and precision.
How could I ever want to be known by such a disgusting name full of such expectations when I could be called by something so perfectly divine.
