Day 1

Aug 25, 2004 16:46

Today in class we discussed the syllabus, Stan the Man, and played a name game. I had a long discussion with Dave about the word "mown" during the break, attempting to decide if it was actually a word. It turns out that the past perfect of "mow" is both "mowed" and "mown." I suppose the word mown was more archaic and slang destroyed its grip on the dictionary. So it goes with the language, yet again.

The Stanislavski bit was interesting. Liz brought out some ideas for directions the theatre took after he started his work. We did two acting exercises on Passionate acting from the early 1800s. In short, the performance acting was terribly rigid, like an early physics theory that knew the sun moved in the sky, but not that we were the ones moving all along. I wonder if I could use a bit of presentational acting in Va Woolf? to clarify some emotions at time, worked in little bits just to make sure the audience doesn't lose the emotion.

The name game involved a large physical motion and an alliterated adjective for your name. It was very difficult for me to remember everyone's actions as well as name. The physicality was great for loosening me up to the class. Despite how I usually act, I always need encouragement to free up and act without hesitation.

I have to go to a PA meeting, but I'll finish this, too, later.

I'm back more enlightened and complacent. Even though it is ten hours later, I think I understand more about what is going on around me. First of all, I realize that even though I formally ended my soul search for August, it is a continual process I am going through.

I had a cigarette a moment ago and walked out to the street corner of Jamestown and 199. I can only picture the fear and hatred that created the world around us. The only thing that motivates me now is the hatred of others. It would feel good to hate them back, but ultimately destroy us all. I think sometimes that I may be one of a few threads working to hold a real existence that does not promote shaking whatever the hell I can out of everyone else to collect a dollar. It's ironic that I don't have a job. I currently think that I have everything together mentally and the problem is in other people not knowing what they are doing but fighting me anyway.

I am pretty much talking about Republicans. I didn't like them very much to begin with, as a Libertarian. They are one of two parties that works their asses off to hide the fact that 38% of our great country is Libertarian but the image is tarnished by media brainwashing. The Republicans today assembled the party platform right out condemning all gay unions, especially marriage. How can someone work to actively hate other people? I don't know if they realize the consequence of their actions or know who they are hurting. Even though it does not affect my life directly, the fact that over half of the country (who voted for Bush) are out to hate people for something that isn't a crime and doesn't make them bad people and is not their choice. Yes, homosexuality is a sin in christianity along with divorce, gambling, excessive drinking, sexual conduct outside of marriage, all sexual marriage, and even kissing before marriage. If we are banning gay unions I simply request we outlaw divorce and physical contact between non-married persons. It is only logical. Instead I say we don't cast any blame on anyone for any reason and just work to be happy. Fear is our strongest motivator as a society, ever since we were afraid mammouths would eat us in the night. I don't know if it is known that discouragement is a stronger motivation by leaps and bounds ahead of praise. If you don't want to get something done, it's easy as pie disheartening a few of the right people.

I've kind of switched horses midstream. I've been working a great amount of discouragement lately, to the point of humiliation. I can work through anything destructive to wait for a good opponent in creation. I just look in the mirror and say, "Today I will win," until I can leave the bathroom and start the day. There isn't just one root for destruction but all around me in everything I do. Even to the point where I total my car and try to live normally despite someone plotting to ruin my life as I type this. I just want everyone to understand that they need to be happy, and I am here to do what I can.

Well I have rambled on enough beyond what I needed. I hope Liz doesn't find this too spewed and underworked; I don't know if she will be surprised by it or not. I have to sleep, I have class in five hours.

Shine On.
