I tend to just post emo brain purges, so I want to make an effort to post positive things. I'm going to try and post about traits I like about myself. So I'm starting tonight with curiosity.
I've always been a curious person, sometimes to my detriment when curiosity turns into nosiness. For the most part though, I just love to learn.
In high school my librarian (Mrs. Gilberty) liked to tell people about the time she found a strange bug. I had study shortly after so she pointed it out to me to ask if I knew what it was. I didn't, so I let it crawl on my arm while I looked it up online. Once I found what it was I showed her and we set the bug free outside again. She was really impressed with that. I never considered it special, but I guess a teenage girl willing to let a bug crawl around on her arm is pretty rare. :) I guess she liked the story because it shows how I like to find answers to questions instead of just wondering idly and letting it go.
I love lots of kinds of tv shows, but the ones that really get me excited are all informational. Shows like NOVA, NOVA: Science Now, Nature, Scientific American, How It's Made (on right now), and DIY shows all suck me in. My favorite show as a kid was Wild America. I love telling people about those shows because I find so much about science and creation fascinating. Like did you know some orcas kill and eat great white sharks using the sharks own physiology against it? Cool right? I KNOW!
I think curiosity can be really underrated. People figure that information is out there so if they need it they can find it. Me, I want to know as much as possible. I like being the person people ask "Do you know what this is?" or "Hey, you know more about this, right?" It's such a cool feeling to be able to give information and maybe even change what someone thinks because you can fill in blanks they might not even have knows they had.
Stay curious, life is more interesting the more you know. (Although it's a little like Lost in that most of the time when you get an answer it just creates more questions. ~_^)
