I'm so glad it's only 8:30. I am going to be in bed by 9, pinky swear. (The reading before lights out idea continues to work unbelievably well; there's something about going back to childhood habits, I guess!)

We had Carys's first birthday party today. One family had to cancel due to illness, but that turned out all right (even though we missed seeing them), because it was a bit of a madhouse. Carys and her 'birthday buddy' Stephen seemed a bit cranky from their struggle to go to one nap, and neighbor Owen was just a bit wound up from all the new things to grab and do and see. The only calm baby was 3-month-old Scotia, which was a blessing. I think all the adults were a bit frazzled...it wasn't a *quiet* party, in other words, although not every bit of it was kids being upset. They were just talkative. A lot.

She got fun gifts and we made scrapbook pages by having most of the guests do hand or foot prints with poster paint. I'll put prints of the birthday pictures on the pages next to the prints. Her uncles grimbil and tedow were there, which was really nice. twirlygurl was also able to combine work and pleasure by being down here for a few days; it was good to see her back on the east coast after a long time in LA.

Yeah, so, my last few days have been a bit consumed by the big one-nap switcheroo. I finally found a few postings and articles online that made sense to me. Carys is in the group of kids that drops their afternoon nap, which is less common and a bit more challenging to deal with. Most of the time she still wakes up early and wants to take a morning nap (around 9:30-10 AM), but it's not lasting as long as it used to and so it becomes a REALLY long stretch until bedtime. Anyway, most of the advice says keep pushing her nap back by 15-30 minutes every week or so until she's regularly napping at 12:30 or a bit later. Then the naps should finally lengthen.

In my searching, I found a fun blog that burrito19 might like especially: The Trixie Update. It's just coming to an end after chronicling nearly 3 years of Trixie's life, but the archives and the fascinating sleep data are going to remain up.

I don't really have much else to report. It turns out that NHPCO has to post a job for five days before they can offer it to someone, so I still have definite hope but also have to be patient. I think that I am going to spend what naptime I get tomorrow calling daycare situations and setting up interviews. I also completely spaced Dante's vet appointment on Thursday night (in hindsight, perhaps the evening is not the best time for getting business done, as we often go completely braindead once she goes to bed), so I have to reschedule.

This week will go by quickly. On Thursday night we drive to the Outer Banks for Wes's company retreat! I hope that is fun for all of us.
