ahh Gravey!! If you had seen the HISTORY channel's show on thanksgiving, I think it would have explained alot.

Yes on the pilgrim thing, but later about Lincoln's time each state and city celecrated the fall harvest at a different date. Basically it wasn't untl (if I rememeber right Roosevelt) that finally set the date down.

But basically it's a time to gather and be thankfull for all that you have. The heavy work for the crops are done and you have enough to get you thru the winter. It was a time just as the heavy snows would have driven people into the houses to "hunker down" for the winter, they wouldn't be seeing too much of each other until spring. it's just a time to take a break from the hard work and enjoy what you worked so hard for. american pig out on thanksgiving and have gotten away from the 'relgious' part of giving thanks to whom made it possible and now it's a day of eating and football. then you get up at a crazy hour and start yoru christmas shopping.

some of us forego the whole thing. waves hand. i no longer do the big meal, nor the football (never liked sports), and the shopping frenzy. for me the holidays bring on the depression. i'd rather treat it as a "normal" day. but if you got any leftover turkey......

huggles.
