Exactly. I heard him respect her wishes about sex and kind of blinked for a moment as if I thought I'd heard wrong given the way other unions were carried out!
I am very grateful that Margaret wasn't as awful as she has been up to now - I was really not looking forward to the relationship with Stanley.
I don't think Stanley has any interest in Margaret except for the money and potential future allies that she brings. He sees it purely as a marriage of convenience, which is what he agreed to - his stipulations to her before they married all being so that his own position was not upset.
At the moment he's not interested in her; he probably has lots of women already prepared to satisfy all his needs - which is understandable.
My initial impression of "guh" was interrupted by OH saying "is that the person off Star Trek" - I think he meant Riker from TNG - and then at RG's next appearance "oh no, it's your bloke". Fortunately he wandered off shortly afterwards.
I don't think the money would really have been a factor - the Stanleys were minted - although Margaret may have been attractive due to her huge... tracts of land. ;)
It's definitely just a marriage of convenience for both of them but I liked that they hinted there could be genuine affection there instead of it being a completely cold business transaction.
Stanley was far too shrewd to risk annoying his new wife by ignoring her request - especially if, as you say, he could take his pleasure elsewhere.
Hee - my OH refers to Rupert as "your bloke" as well! (usually with a roll of the eyes)
I'm quite Team Lancaster at the moment. Most of my observations are probably going to be annoyingly superficial to any ardent fan, but I am trying to keep up and read more into detail about the War of the Roses to get some historical context.
I love the fact that we're introduced to him as someone who announces people into court - because, Rupert voice. But I agree that he can do this kind of charismatic swagger, schemer deal without thinking too much about it. I hope we see some of the same kind of humor we saw in Garrow's Law (albeit with a less cowardly character).
And with regard to Lord Stanley's sex life, I think I read that he had an illegitimate child at some point even though he had no issue with Lady Beaufort. I haven't read the books this drama is based on so I have no idea what they'll include of history and what they'll embellish, but I'm really looking forward to more of Rupert's fine acting and his interaction with Amanda Hale. Hope he gets some really juicy lines, too.
